Lois Brooks was born on September 30, 1932 in Donalsonville, GA., the daughter of Tom Brooks and Mary Eva Comerford Brooks.

Lois married Mack Barwick on July 12, 1950. They were married 62 years before Mack’s passing in 2013. They had three children, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Lois became a Christian at age 14 years old. She never wavered in her faith of Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior, even when faced with the hardships of life such as burying her baby son, cancer and other trials. She always trusted her Lord to carry her through. It was of utmost importance to her to raise her girls in a Christian home, which included active church membership and sending her girls to a Christian school. Nursery duty and baby dedications were the area she felt called to serve in her local church. She also had a ministry of sending encouraging cards and visiting the sick among her church and community.

As a young mom, Lois babysat children in her home. She has always had a great love for children. When her girls were school age, Lois worked at National Cash Registry. After her retirement from NCR, she returned to her passion of caring for children. She worked as a nanny for 12 years. The children she cared for loved her dearly. Mom always felt that being loved by a child was the greatest honor and joy of her life. Upon her final retirement, she and Mack returned “home” to Bainbridge in 1997, after living in Orlando, FL for 45 years.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Barwick; her son, Donald Edward Barwick; parents, Tom and Mary Eva Brooks; sisters, Louise Taylor, Mary Rackowski; brothers, Tommy and Jimmy Brooks.

She is survived by her daughters, Beth Cooper (Mike) and Peggy Mathis (Rick); three grandchildren, Jessica Spaulding (Chris), Ricky Mathis (Ashley), Melissa Sanford (David); and her two great-grandchildren, Abigail Eva Sanford and Matthew Ethan Sanford.
