Betty Jean Thompson was born August 18, 1931 in Decatur County, GA, the daughter of Cary and Susie Mae Salter Thompson. She was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and Business School in Brunswick, GA. Betty married James Lamar Darley in 1952 and they made their home in the Delwood Community. Betty was a member of Delwood Baptist Church.

Anyone in the Delwood Community could tell you Miss Betty’s priorities: Jesus, family and Atlanta Braves baseball. She shared her faith by serving. She cooked many meals for friends and family (and could cook ANYTHING your heart desired), served as a Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher, sang in the choir, and helped with most every event hosted at Delwood. She enjoyed southern gospel with The Gaithers being her favorite group. She believed family was the strong foundation and taught her children and grandchildren to stand firm on those principles.

Survivors include her children, Sonny & Julie Darley of Bainbridge, GA, Gloria & Joe Anderson of Panama City, FL, Susan Maxwell of Whigham, GA, and Lillian & Coley Voyles of Bainbridge, GA; her grandchildren, Rebecca (Aaron), Amanda (Patrick), Patrick (Amber), Ashley (Jeremy), Carrie (Bradley), Stephanie, William, Jennifer, Blake, Hunter and Holton; her great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Annalise, Jacob, Beau, Noah, Clara, Emmett, Amelia, Anderson, James and Caroline; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, James Lamar Darley; her brother, Cary Lester Thompson; her grandson, Joey Maxwell; and her son-in-law, Chub Maxwell.
