Annie Lee Durham was born March 30, 1932 in Vidette, GA, the daughter of Eddie and Grace Rawlings Durham. She was a graduate of Brinson High School and later business school. Her first job after business school was at Willis Motor Company. Ann married Edward Thomas Mitchell in 1954 and they made their home in Brinson. Ann retired with 32+ years from the Decatur County Clerk of Court. She was a member of Brinson United Methodist Church where she served as pianist for over 50 years.

“Miss” Ann, as she was affectionately known, was always in charge. She drove a hard bargain and managed to keep the Clerk’s office running at maximum efficiency for over three decades. She was a perfectionist and politely taught others to do and be their best at all times. Family was her life and this included quite a few that were not blood-related especially those rascals that were her sons-in-law. She enjoyed family gatherings and being outdoors. Purple martins, gardening (especially the day lily beds), and grandchildren playing brought a smile to her face. “Miss” Ann had a heart of gold and willingly shared her gifts. She could cook most anything but baked the best caramel cake ever. Her “family” at Bainbridge Health & Rehab enjoyed her gift of music and would gather around the piano as she played old hymns from memory. “Miss” Ann made sure you had everything you needed whether you knew you needed it or not.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Ed Mitchell; her children, Peggy & Johnny Johnson of Tallahassee, FL, Susan & Mike Conger of Atlanta, GA, and Brenda & Greg Bess of Dothan, AL; her siblings, Ronald & Barbara Durham of Eastman, GA; her grandchildren, Jessica & Tyler, Justin & Bronwyn, Kyle & Mekelle, Abby & Korbin, Carter & Madison, and Mitchell; her great-grandchildren, Ivy, Annsley, Will, Lily, Maddie, Lucy, Harrison, James Edward, Brooklyn, and Annie Lee; and Ed & Ann’s faithful companion, Belle. In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her brothers, Eddie C. Durham, Jr. and Henry B. Durham.

The Mitchell Family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Bainbridge Healthcare Staff for their kindness and compassion.
