YMCA Board of Directors Host Workday

BAINBRIDGE, GA- Nearly 20 members of the YMCA Board of Directors and their families volunteered their Saturday morning at the Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA for the “Board of Directors Workday”.

Board member Claire Webb, who leads the Buildings and Grounds Committee, organized the spring beautification effort. Incorporating social distancing and other health precautions, the event is one of several upcoming work days aimed at restoring the property’s natural beauty and landscape in anticipation of the reopening of Y’s facilities on May 4th.

Armed with work gloves and tools, volunteers gathered at 9:00 am and began their assignments for the day. Improvements included:

Pulling weeds, hedge trimming, mulching, raking, hauling debris, cutting limbs, and litter pickup.

Webb said the workday was not only a way to give back to the Y but also an opportunity to make new friends and work side by side with the Y’s leaders.

A family friendly event for all ages, several families volunteered their time together and enjoyed pizza and refreshments for lunch.

Bridget Harrell, the President of the Board of Directors, brought her four children and husband to show their support for the Y.

“This is a great way to lead by example and to teach kids the importance of giving back,” said Harrell. “It’s humbling to see how many volunteers showed up with such excitement and energy for the Y.”

The YMCA will host its next workday on Saturday, May 2nd from 9:00 am-noon. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Bridget Harrell at [email protected] for information regarding the YMCA Workday measures to combat the spread of COVID-19 including social distancing.
