Arthur Powell Bird was born December 12, 1931 in Colquitt, GA, the son of Branch Orson Bird and Ada Roberts Bird. Arthur was a hard-working man. He lived by the code of earning every dollar that you make. He spent many years working for Coastal Lumber Company until his retirement. The one thing that usually goes together with a hard worker, is being a strong family man. Arthur was just that. He loved spending time with his loved ones and always made sure to keep them laughing and smiling. His jolly, free-spirited personality led him to dress up as Santa Clause for several years. It also meant he never met a stranger and if he was ever late for anything, it was probably because he was talking someone’s head off. There was always one thing about Arthur, no matter who you were, you always received the same open arms that everyone else did. He cared for everyone and always treated people the same.
Survivors include his children, Linda B. & David Grubbs of Attapulgus, Barbara A. & Ross Spooner of Climax, and Peggy & Hoyt Sapp also of Attapulgus; his siblings, B.C. & Linda Bird, Sammy & Vera Bird, Betty Lou Dickerson, and Annie Sara Miller; his grandchildren, Belinda & Jeff, Ernie & Jessica, Colt, Davey & Katie, Lea & Ben, and Macey & Parker; his great-grandchildren, Shelby, Landon, Zoey, Willow, Heidi, and Dee. In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by his wife, Duane Bird; his siblings, Edgar Bird and Willie Bird; and his great-grandson, Zane Gunn.
