Emma Kate “Katy” Jones was born July 29, 1923 in Newton, GA, the daughter of Carl and Lalia Adams Jones. She was a graduate of Bainbridge High School and a long-standing member of First Baptist Church. “Miss Katy” was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class, the Mamie Norton Circle, and Tallahassee Art Society.
Katy was an accomplished artist on many levels. She loved country art and often painted the projects Bob cut out. Most will remember making these purchases at The Yellow Daisy where you learned about the happenings in town while you dreamed of the next project. Katy talked of her days working with the Ration Board during World War II and wrote poetry reflecting her experiences in this world. “Miss Katy” never met a stranger and could sell ice to Eskimos. Besides the Yellow Daisy, she hosted home parties for Fashion 220 (cosmetics & skincare) where she was quite successful…even winning a car based on her sales.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Coleman Smith of Bainbridge, GA; her granddaughters who affectionately called her “Sister”, Amy Thorn and Patsy Thornton; her great-grandchildren, Noah Thorn, Jakob Thorn, Cole Thornton and Caleb Thornton; and her niece & nephew, Sandy Josey and Rusty Jones. In addition to her parents, Katy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Coleman; and her brother, Carl Jones Jr.
