Bridget Harrell Elected President of YMCA Board of Directors

At its first meeting of 2020, Bridget Harrell began her term as President of the Board of Directors of the Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA. Harrell will work with her fellow board members along with the new CEO Ken Bailey and his staff to expand the Y’s impact in Bainbridge and Decatur County.

Harrell has been an active YMCA member and volunteer for several years. She served on the Board of Directors for 2019-20 and was a member of the Board’s Interview Committee that hired Bailey last December. Both beginning in their positions in January, CEO Bailey and Harrell are leading the effort to revitalize and renovate the facilities and property of Bainbridge Y.

A licensed funeral director and mother of four, Bridget has extensive volunteer experience having served in leadership roles in the Bainbridge Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, English to Spanish Language (ESL), CASA of Southwest Georgia and Relay for Life. She and her husband, Benny, enjoy the Y group fitness classes, exercising in the cardio room, running on the track, lifting in the weight room, swimming at the pool, and playing on the playground with their daughters.

“I’m honored to serve as YMCA board chair,” Harrell said. “It’s an exciting time to be involved with the Y, which is experiencing one of the most dynamic periods of growth and impact in its 35-year history. The Y is the only place in our community that has something to offer everyone whether its our afterschool program for working parents, Silver Slippers fitness classes for seniors, our steam room and workout facilities and of course the only swimming pool available in our community.”

In addition to Harrell’s election, the Board selected the following officers:

• Erica Austin, Secretary

• Paxton Poitevint, Treasurer

• Meredyth Earnest, Immediate Past President

Current board members Frank Loeffler, Greg Smith, Joe Livingston, Jimmy Harris, Lauren Minor, Stevie Brown, and Paul Digby will be joined by incoming board members:

• Charlie Bowles, President, PeopleSouth Bank

• Claire Webb, Registered Nurse, Tallahassee Memorial Hospital

• Landin Marzolf, Chiropractor, CARE 360

• Kevin Angell, Director of Human Resources, Stone’s Home Centers
