Tracy Allen Dixon was born August 20, 1941 in Savannah, GA, the son of Joe Tracy Dixon and LaVerne Mercer Dixon. He graduated from high school in Savannah, GA then earned a bachelor’s from the University of Georgia and graduated from the School of Banking at the University of Virginia. He was the inaugural president of First National Bank of Decatur County following his retirement from Park Avenue Bank. Tracy served our community on many boards and organizations including holding leadership roles on the YMCA board and as president of the Rotary Club and the Bainbridge Country Club.
A fierce competitor, Tracy brought his “play to win” attitude everywhere from the green to the board room. He was a charismatic kind of guy that almost made you feel good about losing to him. “Butch” loved golf, Wednesday night card games and the University of Georgia. Georgia tailgating, whether in Athens or at home, brought many laughs and lots of armchair coaching advice. Tracy Dixon believed his wife, children and grandchildren were more valuable than silver or gold and consider them his greatest treasure on this Earth.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Rose Mary Dixon; his children, Peyton & Brittney Dixon of Baton Rouge, LA and Ashley Dixon of Snellville, GA; his sisters, Susan Touset of Marietta, GA and Judy Litchfield of Ackworth, GA; his grandchildren, Alana, Peyton Tracy, Bailey, Colby, Kennedy, Tanner and Levi; and his great-grandson, Wyatt. In addition to his parents, Tracy was preceded in death by his siblings, Delia Dixon, Nita Garner and Jim Mercer.
