Advanced voting for the Nov. 5th City of Bainbridge elections will continue for the next two weeks.
Voting will resume Monday, Oct. 21, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the weekdays at the Elections Office located at 122 W. Water St. There will be Saturday voting on Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Advanced voting concludes on Friday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m.
Three polling locations — the Coliseum located at 600 Wheat Ave., the Fairgrounds at 1211 Vada Road and the West Bainbridge at 507 Martin St. — will be the only precinct polling locations in the county to open for the Nov. 5th Municipal General Election.
Voters in the City of Bainbridge are the first voters in the county to use the new voting equipment.
The Fairgrounds at 1211 Vada Road, which in the past was also used as an advanced voting location, is now ONLY used for Election Day voting for electors in that precinct. Going forward, ALL advanced voting will be at the Elections Office at the Courthouse Annex.
Also, the West Bainbridge polling location that was at the old middle school on Dothan Highway, is now located at the School Support Center located at 507 Martin St. The location is less than a mile from the old polling location, and it’s off of Bethel Road toward the east before Newton Road.
Although there are five candidates appearing in the District A, Seat 2 special election to fill a vacant seat, votes for only four of the candidates will be counted. Ted Lee’s candidacy was disqualified, so votes he receives will be voided and not counted.
The other candidates running for that seat are Kevin E. Bruton, Kenneth Ellison, Jacob A. Gilstrap and Sylvia Washington.
For District B voters, there’s a contested race between Emory Middleton and incumbent Roslyn W. Palmer.
All City of Bainbridge electors will vote yes or no on two alcohol-related questions, which are the following:
Sunday Sales of Alcoholic Beverages by the Drink
Shall the governing authority of the City of Bainbridge be authorized to permit and regulate Sunday sales of distilled spirits or alcoholic beverages for beverage purposes by the drink from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.?
Sunday Package Sales of Alcoholic Beverages by Retailers
Shall the governing authority of the City of Bainbridge be authorized to permit and regulate package sales by retailers of malt beverages, wine, and distilled spirits on Sundays between the hours of 12:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.?
Voters may request absentee ballots for both this election and the March 24th Presidential Preference Primary, which you must specify which political party’s ballot you want. If you are 65 years old or older or disabled, be sure to check the appropriate box to ensure you receive a ballot for each ensuing election in 2020. Military personnel and their families and civilians serving overseas are also encouraged to request their absentee mail-in ballots and fill it out completely to ensure a rollover ballot for all the 2020 elections.
