June 13, 1950 – September 15, 2019

Melvin James Colvin, 69, of Bainbridge, GA, formerly of Gadsden County, FL, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2019.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Willis officiating. Interment will be at Cool Springs Cemetery.

Melvin James Colvin was born June 13, 1950 in Quincy, FL, the son of Curtis and Helen Wade Colvin. He retired from Hinson Oil Company as a truck driver. Melvin was Baptist by faith.

Grandchildren were a highlight in Melvin’s life. He enjoyed spending every moment he could with family which soon included the staff at Bainbridge Health & Rehab. If he spent any amount of time with you, he felt you earned the right to be “family”. Sports could be a hot topic, especially during football season. Melvin was quick to share his ideas on who should be doing what on the field. He loved a family softball game and shouted encouragement like it was the World Series.

Survivors include his children, Don & Patty Hoskins, James “Buddy” & Jennifer Hoskins, Sandy Griffin, Nita & Pudge Floyd, Beverly Love, Steven Colvin, all of Bainbridge, GA and James & Tracey Colvin of Tallahassee, FL; his grandchildren, Shane, Shawn, Sheldon, Tyler, Caitlyn, Kayla, Preston, Jacob, Samantha, Bobby, Jordan, Tristan, Carson and Albren; and his great-grandchildren, Gavin, Ethan, Vada, Hunter, Grayson, Tanner, Lilli, Addie, Jayden and Hazeleigh. In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his sister, May Nishimoto; and a special friend, Marie Welch.
