Charles Lee Slade, 74, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2019.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnny Barnett officiating. A private interment will be held at Roselawn Memory Gardens.

Charles Lee Slade was born October 17, 1944 in Americus, GA, the son of Jerry Hampton Slade and Myrtle Agnes Johnson Slade. He was a graduate of Crisp County High School. He married Linda Kay Hutchinson in July of 1966 and moved to Bainbridge. Charles retired with the City of Bainbridge, Public Works Department and was a member of First Baptist Church.

Local folks remember Charles Slade for walking the streets of Bainbridge making sure things were in order. He had a great sense of humor and made his rounds shooting the breeze with anyone that would listen. For years, Charles would walk his children and grandchildren to school with a hot cup of coffee in hand. He enjoyed fishing and watching wrestling when his favorite team, the Georgia Bulldogs, were not playing. Charles Slade was a humble man who tried to find joy in the little things of life.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Linda Slade; his children, Chuck Slade of Calvary, GA, Leila Johns and her husband, Brett, of Bainbridge, GA, Becky Kelly and her husband, David, of Climax, GA, Richard Slade, and John Slade, both of Bainbridge, GA; his grandchildren, Mitch, Dawn, Cameron, Shane, Chris, Paige, Austyn, Josh, Payton, Emily, David and Cheyenne; and his many great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry Slade and James Slade; and his granddaughter, Brittney.
