Patricia Gayle Lane was born October 13, 1940 in Bainbridge, GA, the daughter of Fred and Louise Lane. She was a graduate of West Bainbridge High School. Gayle worked in Decatur County Schools retiring from John Johnson Elementary. She was a member of West Bainbridge United Methodist Church.

To describe Gayle as “a character” was quite the understatement. She said what she thought and often without abandon. Gayle had a head as hard as a rock and a heart as big as Texas. She loved life and everything about it. She enjoyed dancing, singing and decorating. She went all out for holidays and always managed to find one more little something at her favorite place to shop, The Dollar Tree. Even though Gayle loved watching reruns of television series and old movies, she was an avid reader having read most of James Patterson’s work.

Survivors include her children, Daryl Pope and his wife, Jan, of Bainbridge, Russell Pope and his wife, Cathy, of Brinson, and Shane Pope and his wife, Tammie, also of Brinson; her sisters, Angela & Richard Brown of Sacramento, CA, Betty Yates of Albany, GA, and Dawn Lane of Cairo, GA; her grandchildren, Justin & Annette, Josh & Brittny, Kendall & Addie, Chasity, Nathan & Leslie, and Danny; and her great-grandchildren, Lanie, Caleb, Kai and Ansley. In addition to her parents, Gayle was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Wallace Humphrey Pope.

The Pope Family would like to extend their gratitude to Gayle’s caregivers, Viola and Danielle, and Darlene Morris with Kindred Hospice for their kindness and compassion.
