Vicious Dogs - Please Help Us
anonymous writes
I am so glad some one is finally speaking up about it.
I didnt know what to do about them.
I called and was told the catcher doesnt do in the country.
I had a rabbit in a cage for 8 yrs and they tore the cage apart and killed my grandkids rabbit. Then my little dog I had for 6 yrs was in the yard doing her job and they jumped her and killed her. I was so mad I wanted to kill every dog in the community but, I ask God to help me with this that maybe one day some one would do something about it.
Now someone please do something because I have grandkids that love to play in the yard.
I used to live out in the country too and we had 3 specific bulldogs on our street that terrorized everything. My dad solved it with his trusty ole .22 rifle.

I know for a fact that Sheriff’s deputies have told people to shoot dogs that come onto one’s property and do bodily harm to a person, pet or farm animal. (Perspective- There is a difference in being told to shoot a dog and being told it is OK to shoot a dog to protect oneself or property which is what I assume would be a deputy’s answer.-LS)
People, in general, hate to do this, but just shooting could scare the dog(s) away. If one is injured or his property (including pets and farm animals) just try to find the owner and ask him to file a claim with his homeowner’s or farmowner’s liabilty insurance company. If he doesn’t have insurance and does not pay for damages himself, take him to court. You may start with the Magistrate Court. Judges are more open minded about these problems now and I believe rule fairly. When injuries do occur to either you, your pets or farm animals, and you can identify the owner of the dog(s), first call the Health Department to have them investigate and see if the dog(s) have their rabies shots.
Comment by beehappy — June 11, 2008 @ 4:47 pmThere needs to be something done about dogs barking in the county. If I am out in my yard at night playing my radio full blast, you can have me locked up. But if you have a pin full of dogs barking all night keeping me from sleeping there is nothing I can do about this! There is no law to control dogs in the county. A dog barking in town is no different than one barking in the county.
If you have a dog problem in the city you call animal control, so who do we call in the county? (nobody, because there is no law for dogs barking in the county and disturbing the peace.
Comment by Tcat — June 11, 2008 @ 10:24 pmI don’t know what hurts the most—the dogs killing the rabbit or the poor rabbit being in a cage for 8 years.
Comment by hillbilly — June 12, 2008 @ 9:45 amNot just vicious dogs but dogs in need. A few months ago there was a white german shepard mixed breed in my neighborhood. It appeared to have brown around her neck and I soon realized it was blood. I tried to approach the dog, as I was thinking I could clean her neck etc. But the dog began to growl and bark at me as I approached her, so I backed off. I was told because we live outside of the City limits there is no one to call. I was sick about it all day just thinking of that poor dog that someone obviously had tied up and rubbed her fur/neck raw. Wishing we had a ASPCA to call on.
Comment by Jweiss — June 13, 2008 @ 7:02 amMy prayers are with the small innocent child that was mauled by the dogs last week. This child’s welfare is more important than the unfortunate circumstances that led to her and her father being injured by the dogs. The family members of this sweet little girl should have never had to be at the county commissioners’ meeting in the first place!
Comment by DE — June 13, 2008 @ 6:41 pmI feel ashamed that it was not until my own dog and myself were threatened by a very large dog on my property that I did not see the need to speak up about the dog problem. The large dog in question is a gentle giant but when it is allowed to roam freely, (which is often), it turns into an aggressive creature when it sees another dog. I was with my dog, on my property, in my front yard, no more than 15 feet from the front door of my house, when this gentle giant invavded my yard and turned into a mean intruder. I left a message on the answering machine of the owners of this big dog informing them their dog was in my yard trying to bite me and my dog while in my yard at the time of my call. In fact the dog was barking and growling so loud I know the dog’s barks had to be recorded on their answering machine. I then called 911 and the County sheriff’s deputy responded quiclkly. I was informed that their hands were tied in the matter and I needed to speak up to get a lease law passed.
Once again no more than a day or two later the dog in question does the exact same thing. I called one of the county commsioners and he suggested I could speak before the county commissioners a few minutes at the next public meeting. I did do just that.
The next day the same dog does the same thing again. I called 911 and the same county commissioner to complain. The county enforcer came out and did what he could with the same bit of advice the deputy suggested on my original complaint. Then twice more after this the same dog still was allowed to roam free.
The dog is usaully gentle from what I can see most of the time. But when he jumps the fence of the owners property, (This is a very large dog and has no problem jumping a three and a half foot fence), and sees another dog it can get to it will charge and become aggressive toward another dog.
What is it going to take? Will it take yet another child to be mauled or even God forbid being killed. Can you imagine the horror? What will the outside media say? What will be said when all those videos of commissioners saying, “Be patient, wheels of governemt turn slow!” and then a clip of the child’s funeral is broadcast?! Sounds dramatic? I don’t think so! When one owes back taxes to the county there is sure a lot of push to get that tax, ain’t it? But nooooo, we just have to sit back and wait for another child to be mauled or killed and then maybe the slow moving wheels of goverment might see a need in getting something done.
Maybe we need some new folks in office that will move quicker! I don’t care about all the excuses! What good are those for the kids that get mauled by dogs that the owner of could give less than a rat’s butt about it?
I am a business owner and my business does involve a dog breeding kennel. I am state lic, inspected and never had a violation and we are very reputable breeders so I guess what I’m wondering is how these new “animal control Ordinance” will effect my business?
I am all for leash laws and owners being responsible for their pets but I just hope that the commissioners take the current business owners into consideration when they are coming up with these ordinances.
