Dennis was born November 30, 1954 in Bainbridge, GA, the son of John Ebb and Edna Stegall Cato of Bainbridge, GA. He attended Bainbridge High School with the class of 1972. He married Tracy Warren Cato in 1983, and they created a beautiful life together with their three children and four grandchildren. Dennis was known around Bainbridge as the bug man but his four grand kids knew him as MOTU (Master of The Universe). He was a renaissance man to say the least. He was a pilot, a scuba diver, a black belt in karate, a NASCAR pit crewman, a sailor, and a walking encyclopedia. Though he has worked in many fields, he is best known for being a biological specimen collector. You could often find him sleuthing around the boat basin hunting for bugs. He served the community as a softball coach, karate sensei, and mentor. He poured his heart into everything he did, and that passion inspired others to do the same.
Survivors include his wife Tracy W. Cato; daughters, Molly Day (Rusty) of Bainbridge; Caitlin Wood (Zach) of Athens, GA and a son, Ashton Cato of Bainbridge; brothers, Anthony Wallace Cato (Sadie) and Tim Cato of Bainbridge; and grandchildren, Rylan Day, Preston Day, Mollie Zoe Day, and John Trace Day of Bainbridge.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jetta Connor.
