Raven Parris, RN, of Bainbridge, graduated Friday, December 12, 2025 from Columbus State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Parris isn’t just a graduate, she is a testament to early mornings, late nights, and the persistence that turned high school dreams into a tangible reality. She discovered her resilience, her passion for nursing, and her ability to navigate the challenging, non-linear path of higher education. “Education isn’t just about personal gain but community betterment.” Parris explains, “as a doula and community health advocate, I’m looking forward to serving and supporting families in SWGA, knowing that this journey, though arduous at times, has prepared me to make a meaningful contribution.”
In addition to her full time work as an RN, raising her son, and intense coursework, Parris also recently became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). This isn’t just a significant accomplishment for Parris, but also a much needed service in SWGA. There is a shortage of IBCLCs in our region and this service will make families stronger and healthier. “I wanted to become a lactation consultant because of my passion for community health. Research shows that breastfeeding can decrease the rate of developing asthma, diabetes, and SIDS in babies & can decrease the risk of developing breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and diabetes in moms. Improving the health of our community is the reason I became a nurse.” Stated Parris.
Following commencement, Parris plans to simultaneously continue her education journey to become a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and open her own IBCLC private practice.
