September 12, 1949 – August 20, 2025
William Nelson Cox, age 75, passed away unexpectedly on August 20, 2025, in Bainbridge, Georgia. Born on September 12, 1949, in Bainbridge, he remained a lifelong resident of the community he called home.
William was a humble and quiet man who earned the respect of those who knew him. He was a jack of all trades; there was nothing he could not do – from working on a farm to repairing cars to fixing lawn mowers. He always found something to do, often seen tinkering around with one project or another, never content just to sit idle.
He is survived by his sisters, Glennie Cox Gray and Mary Cox Blair; nieces, Theresa Cox Avery (Matt), Pamela Cox Goodwin (Brad), Penny Cox, Debra Blair Hart (Aaron), Delores Blair Haire (Scott), and Carrie Gray Hayes (Bryan); nephew, Paul Blair; as well as several great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Estelle Cox.
William was preceded in death by his parents, Decar Covington (Carrie) Cox, Sr. and Verdie Lee Spooner Cox; brothers, Carey Cox Jr., and Harvey Cox; brother-in-law, Bob Gray and nephews, Ricky Blair, Steve Blair, and Kenneth Blair (Brenda).
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Bainbridge, Georgia, where he was a member. All family and friends are welcome to attend.
