Evelyn Marjean Dickens was born September 14, 1934, in Jackson County, FL, the daughter of Emmett & Lessie Brooks Dickens. After high school, she married the love of her life, Ennis Brock, and they made their home in Bainbridge. Miss Evelyn served patrons of Gilbert H. Gragg Library & Bookmobile for years bringing the world into their homes through print. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church.
Known affectionately as MeiMei, “Miss” Evelyn put family first every single time. She loved nothing more than preparing “the best fried chicken in South Georgia” when they gathered at her table. In her quiet time, she read scripture, taking to heart the commands of living a Christian life. “Miss” Evelyn enjoyed gardening noting the parallels to planting the seeds of faith and trusting for the harvest.
Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Ennis Brock; her son, Nick Brock; her grandchildren, Christina & Justin Logue and Christopher & Laura Bowen; her great-grandson, Everett Logue; and her sisters, Elsie Wade, Edna Brock, and Faye Griffin. In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her daughter, Emma Jean “Jeanie” Bowen, and her son-in-law, Jimmie Bowen.
