Marteel King Mitchell, age 83, of Bainbridge, Georgia, passed away at her home on February 3, 2024. She is fondly remembered by her family including daughters Sarah Vanessa Mitchell and Ester Michelle Mitchell, both of McDonough, Georgia; son, Chester King and wife Linda of Lithonia, Georgia; sister, Irelene Robinson Williams and husband Andrew of Riviera Beach, Florida; granddaughter, Autumn King of Atlanta, Georgia. She was predeceased by her parents, Sylvester and Edna Singletary King; husband, Lester Mitchell; brothers, Charlie King, Robert King, Benjamin King; sister, Elizabeth King Walker. She will be missed by a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and spiritual friends that are too many to mention by name.
Marteel was born in Ocilla, Georgia, on September 13, 1940. Her residences over her lifetime included Tifton, Georgia, Brooklyn, New York, Fitzgerald, Georgia, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, West Palm Beach, Florida, Douglas Georgia, and Bainbridge, Georgia.
As a homemaker and mother of three children whom she loved unconditionally, she was very protective of them in every way even in their adult life. As far as likes and hobbies, her favorite past time was crocheting handbags for her daughters. She was an avid reader of health books and ate accordingly. She loved watching Judge Judy and games shows. In addition, watching classic movies, especially those starring Bette Davis or Sidney Poitier. She took pleasure in taking her youngest daughter Sarah to visit relatives in Albany, Ocilla, and Fitzgerald, Georgia. Her favorite color was purple. She loved wearing hats and gloves and, of course, some of those were purple.
She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1961 in New York City. Her love for people and teaching them about her Creator will be remembered by many whom she touched. She loved the ministry, indeed. She was the epitome of faithful service to her God Jehovah down to the end. What was she doing during the last hours of her life? Listening to a Bible presentation on jw.org. Such devotion to her spiritual education speaks volumes about who she was. She knew her true identity, a servant of the Most High God!
