William Douglas Henderson, Jr. was born August 11, 1939, in Tallahassee, FL, the son of William Douglas Henderson & Mary Josephine Turner Henderson. He was a graduate of Emory University with a degree as a medical doctor. Doug retired from Tallahassee Orthopedic Clinic as an orthopedic surgeon after 36 years of service. He was a member of Deer Lake Methodist Church.

Doug grew up in Tallahassee and went to Leon High School and graduated from Baylor Preparatory School.  His early years were spent hunting, fishing, going to St. Teresa Beach, and being an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.

In 1973, he married Judi Fansler and they moved to Oregon briefly to finish Doug’s fellowship in sports medicine, before returning to Tallahassee. Doug co-founded Tallahassee Orthopedic Clinic in 1975 with Dr. Tom Haney which grew into the medical facility it is today. He devoted countless weekends working with local high school football teams as well as with FSU as one of the team doctors.

Doug’s faith in God was evident in the way that he served the church community.  He participated in several mission trips as well as always helped out when there was work to be done around the church.  He was also a quiet man of prayer and supported Judi in her different prayer ministries.

Doug enjoyed hunting in South Georgia, Montana and South Dakota. He also enjoyed raising and training dogs that loved riding around in the truck with him in South Georgia.  Doug loved to ride around on his tractor, bush hog, move fallen trees and dig up the earth.  He loved being with his grandchildren and always brightened up when they would come to the house.

Doug loved to travel.  He spent time in Europe while in the Air Force and later with his wife and sons.  He spent many hours driving the motor home to take the family out west to Jackson Hole and the Grand Canyon.  Doug also was involved as the doctor for US soccer teams and traveled with them.
