June 3, 1945 – February 7, 2025
We regret to announce the passing of Retta Theresa Strausheim Bass of Cairo, Georgia.
Services for Mrs. Bass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at the Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Cairo, Georgia. Father Godfrey Boachie-Yiadom will officiate.
Retta Theresa Strausheim was born June 3, 1945, to Robert Wilson Strausheim and Shirley Laverne Kelsey Strausheim. She grew up and graduated from high school in Denver, Colorado. It was there that she met a young, Grady County native, Air Force recruit that was stationed nearby. The rest is history. On June 4, 1966, she married that young serviceman. She and Kenneth Louis Bass shared life together for nearly 59 years. The big city girl fit comfortably into her farm life in Grady County. She enjoyed her chickens, loved to fish, and sew. She was an avid reader and talented at crochet. Retta was a great cook. A member of Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, she loved her church and served as a Eucharistic Minister and reader. She was a loving mother. Retta and her sweet smile will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
Retta Bass is survived by her husband, Kenneth Louis Bass; her children, Kenneth L. Bass, Jr., Theresa M. Bass, and Michael J. Bass (Vicki); grandchildren, Meggan Bass, Amanda Bass, Joshua Bass, Robert Bass, James Bass, and Nichole Bass; and great-grandchildren, Grayson Schlicting, Carson Bass, and Damien Bass. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert (Butch) Strausheim, Jr.
