Katherine Connell

We regret to announce the passing of Katherine Connell, age 68, on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, Florida.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, February 5, in the Cadwell Chapel of Cox-Ivey Funeral Home, Bainbridge, Georgia. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Mr. William Jones will officiate. Bill Ritter, Joe Connell, and Derrick Bracewell will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Katherine, known to many by “Kattie”, also known to those who loved her as Mama, Kattie Lou, Mawmaw, Nana, Sister, and friend. Kattie had a heart full of love and a spirit dedicated to caring for others. Always busy cooking and cleaning for those she loved, she put others before herself in every way. She found joy in the simple things—playing board games, spending time with family, and trying her luck with a scratch-off ticket. In her free time, Kattie could often be found on the porch, coffee in one hand, and a cigarette in the other, taking in the peaceful sounds of nature. She valued meaningful moments with loved ones far more than any material possessions. And if you knew Kattie, you knew she was never without having her nails painted and her jewelry—her signature touch. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Katherine Connell is survived by her children, Edward Connell (Megan) of Decatur, Georgia and Michael Connell of Dooly County, Georgia; grandchildren, Taylor Grubbs (Jordan) of Colquitt, Georgia, Chance Connell of Tallahassee, Florida, Tyler Connell of Cairo, Georgia, Kaylea Connell of Little Rock, Arkansas, Tyler Connell of Little Rock, Eddie Connell of Cairo, Ember Connell of Little Rock, and Eli Connell of Decatur, Georgia; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Jessie King of Nashville, Georgia, Joyce Thompson of Nashville, and Deloris Ritter of Bainbridge, Georgia; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, J.C. King and Erodis Buckhaulter King, and siblings, Diane Jones, Virginia Morris, Claude “Buddy” Morris, Sarah Welch, Linda Welch, and Willie Sampson.
