The Carter Arts and Lecture Series at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Bainbridge (ABAC) will feature the Atlanta Shakespeare Company’s production of Romeo and Juliet on Thursday, March 13.
This timeless tale of star-crossed lovers was one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays during his lifetime. It remains one of the world’s most popular works of theater, being one of the most frequently performed Shakespearean works. The Atlanta Shakespeare Company will stage an abridged version of the Bard’s romantic tragedy.
“We are very happy to offer to the community a high-quality presentation of a classic play,” said Dr. Michael Kirkland, executive director of ABAC Bainbridge. “The professional actors from the famous Atlanta Shakespeare Company will provide a terrific experience. We hope to see a great crowd!”
The Atlanta Shakespeare Company has been active since the first run of “As You Like It” in May of 1986. The theater company consists of artists who are dedicated to a pure approach to each work while actively embracing the heart and soul of Elizabethan Theater: the active relationship between actor and audience. ASC was the first American company to perform on the stage of Shakespeare’s historic Globe Theater in London, England.
The event, which is part of the annual ABAC Arts and Culture season, will take place at the Charles H. Kirbo Center on the Bainbridge Campus beginning at 7 p.m.
The Carter Arts & Lecture Series, named for former President Jimmy Carter, is committed to enhancing the educational experience by bringing compelling speakers, distinguished authors, and performing arts to the ABAC Bainbridge campus. These events are designed to bring the campus and wider public together to educate, inspire, and spark imagination. The event is free and open to the public with no ticket required.
