Edith Dolores Perry was born December 8, 1942, in Havana, FL, the daughter of Woodrow & Hazel Johnson Perry. She was a graduate of Quincy High School and spent one year studying at Florida State University. Dolores married Roy W. “Billy” Hawkins in 1966, and they spent their lives in South Georgia/North Florida. She worked for many years as an admissions clerk at Bainbridge Junior College. Dolores was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Dolores was a kind soul who loved God with her whole heart and always made herself available to others. She loved to talk and offered a listening ear without hesitation. Family was the most important to Dolores, and she was a dearly loved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Dolores was known for her fashion sense and love of gardening (both flowers & fruit). She enjoyed dressing up, especially for church, and adding jewelry to match. Her choice of colors and patterns reflected exactly what her mind saw as she nurtured her plants. Never one to wear heels or closed toe shoes, Dolores had a pair of flats or sandals for every outfit and occasion. Animals, large and small, from the donkey in the field to the bird living inside that screamed every time a stranger entered, knew Dolores was good for a snack and a quick conversation.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Roy W. “Billy” Hawkins; her granddaughter, Zoie; her nephews, Jim Perry and Dan Perry; and her great-nieces & nephews, Avery, Carson, and Ryan. In addition to her parents, Dolores was preceded in death by her daughter, Gargaria Hawkins Spooner, and her brother, Dr. Earl Perry.

Bryant Funeral Home, located at 105 N. Florida Street, is assisting the family with arrangements. (229-246-3321)
