Carlton R. Welsh, Jr. was born January 2, 1948, in Hartford, CT, the son of Carlton R. Welsh, Sr. and Grace Shirley Coombs Welsh. He grew up in Manchester, CT. Carl graduated from Rockville High School in Rockville, CT and attended the Radcliffe Hicks School of Agriculture at the University of Connecticut prior to enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in January of 1969. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict and was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Combat Action Ribbon along with other military awards.
Following his military service Carl returned to his real passion of dairy farming which he pursued for 25 years across Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. He had a natural gift as a salesman that led him to owning a dairy farm supply business for 15 years where he enjoyed servicing farms in Western Connecticut and Eastern New York. He went on to manage two Tractor Supply locations over the next seven years, until retirement. He was not one for a quiet retirement and became a certified rodeo judge in his spare time.
Carl and Nancy moved to Dothan, AL in 2018 for warmer weather and easier living. He was an avid golfer from the time he was a young man and became involved with PGA Hope led by Ty Anderson at Highland Oaks Golf Club in Dothan. He really enjoyed being with other veterans and especially spending time with Ty. He was always up for a road trip with him or just watching him give lessons at Ft. Rucker.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Nancy Keet Welsh; his sons and daughters-in-law, Rick & Sarah Welsh of Central Bridge, NY, Rob & Danielle Welsh of New Lenox, IL, and Dan & Charlene Welsh of Palmerton, PA; his grandchildren, Sam, Issac, and Dillon; his siblings, Randy Welsh, Jeff Welsh, Corey Welsh, and Mary Ella Gardiner; as well as a host of extended family. Carl was preceded in death by his parents.
Bryant Funeral Home, located at 105 N. Florida Street, is assisting the family with arrangements. (229-246-3321)
