Alfred Earl Hester, Jr. was born January 5, 1934, in Climax, GA, the son of Alfred Earl Hester, Sr. & Alma Pearl Allen Hester. He was a graduate of Climax High School, attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, and ultimately graduated from the University of Georgia in 1956. Bubber married Ann Williams in 1957, and they recorded 67 years of wedded bliss in Climax. He was a member of Climax Methodist Church.

Phrases like “good as gold”, “straight as an arrow”, “man of his word”, “laid back & easy going” described Bubber to a tee. He kept busy serving his community through the Climax Community Club, as Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts, poll supervisor for elections in Climax, and projects at the church. He especially enjoyed working with the Shoebox Ministry.

On the farm, Bubber was considered a workaholic. Sun up to sun down didn’t always cover his hours. His ingenuity meant no piece of farm equipment was safe. “Improvements” were defined as whatever it took to make it work like Bubber wanted it to. On the off chance he had a moment to spare, Bubber hit the hedgerows to quail hunt or went to the pond fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Ann Williams Hester; his children, Alfred E. “Al” Hester, III (Patty), Jill Hester Clark (Phillip), and James Wendell Hester; his grandchildren, Brandie Hester, Alfred E. “Allen” Hester, IV, and Chelsea Clark; his great-grandchildren, Mary Ann Hester, Nichole Hester, and Joshua Hester; his sisters, Carole Hester Gibbs, Betty Hester McGlamery, and Sandra Hester Gee (Charles); as well as numerous nieces & nephews. In addition to his parents, Bubber was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Kristy Hester.

Bryant Funeral Home, located at 105 N. Florida Street, is assisting the family with arrangements. (229-246-3321)
