Dargan Bronza Long was born September 29, 1953, in Bainbridge, GA, the son of Rogers & Evelyn Kendrick Long. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1972, and studied at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College prior to farming with his brother-in-law. Dargan married Kelly Johnson in 1982, and they chose to raise their family in Bainbridge. He was a member of First Baptist Church and a devoted Christian serving as a choir member, Sunday School teacher, leader for Ras, and deacon in years past.
Dargan was a man of deep faith who loved the Lord with his entire being. The constant smile on his face was evidence of the joy in his heart. He devoted his life to his family serving them as Jesus would. He was a person of integrity who led by example in accordance with Scripture. Dargan used his God-given talent as a portrait and wildlife artist to capture the essence of God’s creation.
His love for the outdoors fit perfectly with his days coaching the boys from tee ball through high school baseball, guiding hunts at Southwind Plantation, hunting, and fishing. Dargan viewed the world through an artist’s lens acknowledging the details only the Lord Himself could design. He leaves a legacy of pure love for his family, friends, and patrons.
Words penned by John MacArthur perfectly summarize our thoughts: “I thank God for gracing my life with a father who loved his Lord, his wife and children, and set for me a pattern of faithfulness to the truth, written and incarnate—to the end. Until he went to heaven his life was a model of integrity.”
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Kelly Johnson Long; his children, Kendrick Long, Stanton Long, Mary Alice Long, and David Long; his siblings, Ulatha Bridges, Charla Palmer (Charles), Daryl Long (Carolyn), and Brenda Dowdy (Johnny); his sister-in-law, Gail Long; and a host of extended family. In addition to his parents, Dargan was preceded in death by his siblings, Kitty Willis and Arky Long.
Bryant Funeral Home, located at 105 N. Florida Street, is assisting the family with arrangements. (229-246-3321)
