Joyce Marilyn “Sister” Mabardy, age 82, of Marianna, Florida, left this world to be with the Lord on November 27, 2024, at Southeast Health in Dothan, Alabama, after a brief illness. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at the Cadwell Chapel of Cox-Ivey Funeral Home, 502 S. Scott Street, Bainbridge, Georgia, with Rev. Jimmy Wright and Rev. Bill Mayo officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Gilead Church Cemetery with Ronald Ranew, Eric Ranew, Michael Ranew, Joseph Ranew, Justin Tomlinson, and Scott Cook serving as pallbearers.
Marilyn worked at the Jackson County jail in the 1970’s before completing a successful 31-year career at Florida State Hospital and since has enjoyed her retirement for the past 30 years. Until her brief illness, Sister served as president in different clubs, first woman president of the Marianna Lions Club, active in the Senior Fellowship Association, also served as president of the Marianna American Legion, active with the Pink Ladies for over 20 years, belonged to VFW, was an Elk in Marianna and Red Hat Society. She was the “Rock” of her family. Her greatest loves were her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her family. Sister loved to be in her yard working on her flower beds, gardening, driving her John Deere gator and tractor, baking, sewing, and cooking big meals for her family and friends.
Her favorite expressions were: “Hey Baby” and “Hey Bubba”.
Survivors include her children, Gregory Conner (Felicia) and Lorrie Josey (Jody); her partner, Charles Walker; stepsons, Scott Walker (Amanda) and Robert Walker; siblings, Glendale “Buddy” Ranew (Carolyn), Vadin Ranew (Vickie), Alton Ranew (Karen “K.K.”), Stevie Ranew (Peggy) and Timmy Ranew; grandchildren, Franky Conner, Samantha “Sam” Conner (Scott Cook), McKenzie Conner, Kelsey Holt (Butch), Kaylee Morris (Matthew), Autumn Teague (Tyler), Charleigh Walker and Kellyn Walker; and great-grandchildren, Constance Bartle (Cesar Segue), Autumn Holt, Conner Biller, Brynley Biller, Charleigh Griffin, Asher Conner, Summer Holt and Izzy Morris. She was preceded in death by her husbands, James Tally Conner and Harold C. Mabardy; father and mother, Rudell and Lula Marie Ranew; sister, Alice Louise Burkett; and son, David Mabardy. Marilyn wanted this fact known; she cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren, brothers, and sister. She was loved by many, including her numerous nieces and nephews.
Thanks to each of them for their support throughout her difficult life’s struggles but also remembering the GREAT times we ALL had together. She LOVED each of you unconditionally, no matter what!
