Bobbie Jane Culberson was born June 3, 1935, in Clay County, Alabama to William Earnest and Eulalia Luker Culberson. She graduated from Bibb Graves High School in Millerville, AL in 1953 and was employed by General Electric at Oxford, AL for 10 years. She married Oscar H. Dewberry on November 29, 1963.

Bobbie was a true homemaker! She loved working in the yard and caring for all her plants. She was an excellent cook, which was quite evident in her daily meals prepared for her family. She made sure to stock the freezer with peas, beans, cream corn, berries and pecans each season. She always had a jar of homemade jam, jelly or preserves to give you when you left her home. Desserts were a specialty of Bobbie’s, especially Pound Cake and Chocolate Sheath Cake. Bobbie also excelled at sewing, making many prom dresses, Easter dresses, doll clothes and even a wedding dress.

She spent her life devoted to her family and her church. Bobbie was a faithful and active member of Bainbridge First Methodist church having served in many capacities over the years. She spearheaded bereavement meals and worked as a Sunday school coordinator and youth counselor. She was a captain of the prayer chain and a longstanding member of United Methodist Women, in addition to serving on numerous church committees.

In their years together, Bobbie and Oscar traveled often and made many lasting friendships wherever they journeyed. Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, Canada were favorite destinations for them. Many of their travels were birding adventures. Bobbie spent hundreds of hours volunteering at The Salvation Army, helping with disaster relief meals as well as sorting endless donations. She was organized and set in her ways. Training other volunteers involved learning the ropes from one who freely gave her time and talents to ensure no one went without.

Survivors include her children, Jennifer Wydler (Chris) of Jacksonville, FL, Deborah Stewart (Julian) of Panama City, FL, and Janet Carlson (Jack) of Comer, GA; her grandchildren, Mark, Rachel, Jacqueline & Mattia, Alexander & Danielle, Jake & Maureen and Ruth & Matthew, her 8 great-grandchildren; and a large extended family. In addition to her parents, Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Oscar Dewberry, and her siblings Christine Norton, Arnold Culberson, Donald Culberson, Edward Culberson and Wendell “Dickie” Culberson.

The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the staff at Magnolia Place of Bainbridge for their love, support and compassionate care of Bobbie over the past few years.
