Sandra Kay Hendley was born July 24, 1948, in Bainbridge, Georgia, to J. W. Hendley and Nell Thompson Hendley. Sandra had a big smile and a huge heart. As a child, she loved taking part in Girl Scouts. Growing up in the First Baptist Church, she loved attending G.A.’s. Sandra never met a stranger. She married the love of her life, Thomas G. Harrell, and they had two children.
A talented decorator, she decorated their home beautifully. As the children grew, she spent many hours making certain everyone got to their calf shows, swim meets, ball games, whatever was going on. Many times, her mother was included in the outings, and they thoroughly enjoyed that time together. You never had to wonder what Sandra was thinking. She didn’t mask her thoughts. Sandra was a talented pianist and excellent bookkeeper. She worked many years in the office of Tom Maynard, kept the books for many other businesses, and worked with her husband at the stockyard. Sandra loved being in the kitchen and was a wonderful cook. She loved her family and enjoyed it when everyone could get together. She absolutely loved to go fishing, whether on the bank or in a boat, just give her the opportunity to fish. Her heart belonged to her grandchildren, and she loved being a grandmother. Sandra Harrell was full of life and love and will be deeply missed.
Mrs. Harrell is survived by her husband of 58 years, Thomas G. Harrell of Bainbridge; children, Clay Harrell of Bainbridge, and Candi Harrell Chambers (George) of Carrollton, Georgia; sister, Gloria Reeves (Tom) of Bainbridge; grandchildren, Claley Harrell of Cairo, Georgia, Kaleb Chambers and Taylor Chambers, both of Carrollton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
