“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also” (John 14: 1-3 KJV).
I have property in Heaven; a place made by God just for me. But the same is true of every Believer. I, as well as every Christian, have an eternal home in Heaven. It will be our final home and destination. It is most likely because of their poor estate (1 Cor, 1: 26; James 2: 5), that most of the residents of Heaven never owned any land on earth.
When looking for a place to build a house, most people look for property that is scenic; that has a beautiful woodland, or a beautiful body of water, or mountains with rivers and streams. They would choose a place where the cost of living was low and where there was a low crime rate. Based on their income, they will move to the poor, middle class, or rich section of the city.
They may find the perfect place but in a few years things change in that area and the waterways become polluted, the cost of living rises, or the crime rate escalates, causing them to seek another place to live. Things change on earth, and it is mostly from bad to worse.
But in Heaven, the only place where I have property, I will live in a city built by God, paid for with the blood of Jesus, and that never changes. This city will have twelve gates with the names of the twelve tribes of Israel written on them. It will have twelve foundations that are garnished with precious stones and will have the names of the twelve apostles on them. The city will be twelve thousand furlongs high, wide, and long. The city will be pure transparent gold. Each gate to the city is made of one pearl. The one street in the city is transparent gold. There is a pure river of the water of life in that city that flows from the throne of God, and the tree of life grows on both its banks and in the middle of the street. There are no poor, middle class, or rich sections in the city for all its residents are children of the King and live in one holy community. There is no crime because there are no criminals, for nothing that defiles can enter this city. Only those who are saved by grace reside in this city. (Revelation 21, 22).
I don’t know exactly where, but somewhere in this holy and celestial city, there is a piece of property that has my name on the door. And I may see my property today.
This city was spoken into existence by God. Contrary to popular opinion, there is no construction taking place in Heaven. John on the island of Patmos saw in his vision a completed city. If they wouldn’t allow any noise of construction on the site of Solomon’s temple though it was only material and temporal (1 Kings 6: 7), then it certainly will not be allowed on the site of this most holy and celestial city that was not made by hand (Heb. 9: 11; 11: 10).
The preparations Jesus was referring to were not to so much for a place of residence, but through His death and resurrection, He would obtain for us a place of access and a familial right to be there.
Do you have property in Heaven?
