Edwin Boyd was born October 16, 1939, in Bainbridge, Georgia, to Claude Charlie Boyd and Margaret Donalson Boyd. His parents have preceded him in death. Mr. Boyd proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. He traveled the world as a member of the Air Force Basketball Team. On September 3, 1965, Edwin married Bernice Boutwell. For almost 56 years, they shared life together. After he completed his military service, Edwin worked at the Marine Logistics Base in Albany, Georgia. Edwin was very smart and received several awards for the innovations and ideas that he implemented into his job at the Marine base. Edwin Boyd was strong in his faith, a true man of God. He had a strong value system and was a seeker of knowledge. He studied the Bible daily. Mr. Boyd was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. Edwin enjoyed genealogy and knew how to dig deeply into the family’s past. Mr. Boyd’s mind was sharp and clever, and he loved to play a good prank and joke. If you complained that your grass was growing so fast, you couldn’t keep it mowed. You might find out that he was having it fertilized frequently! He loved to give gag gifts, and all the grandchildren were given nicknames. To get along with Edwin Boyd, you needed to remember that lunch is at 12:00 noon, sharp, everyday, and that all the family was expected to join him for each and every holiday or occasion.

He deeply loved his family, each child or grandchild. He might not tell you that every day, but he showed you in so many ways. The true love and heartbeat of Edwin was his wife, Bernice. Her death in 2021 was a massive loss to her husband. Edwin farmed, and he found his serenity in the solitude of riding around his farm on his tractor. Edwin Boyd earned the respect of his family and neighbors. He will be sorely missed.

Edwin Boyd, Sr. is survived by his children, Terry Boyd (Lisa) of Climax, Georgia, Eddie Boyd (Teresa) of Bainbridge, Charlie Boyd (Dana) of Brinson, and Susan Boyd Powell (Dennie) of Bainbridge; grandchildren, Judson Boyd, Cody Boyd (Nikki), Dalton Boyd (Raven), Ty Boyd, Hunter Boyd (Maegan), Ginny Boyd Newell (Bailey aka “George”), Hunter Howell, Gatlyn Majors, Lauren Majors, Clint Boyd, Tyler Boyd (Ashley), Levi Boyd, Courtney Powell Sapp, Charlotte Powell Rice (Garrett), Dewayne Powell (Robin), April Powell Hollingsworth (Christian), Jared Powell; and 16 great-grandchildren.
