Hazel Althea Strode

May 17, 1942 – July 9, 2024

Hazel Althea Strode, age 82, passed away July 9, 2024, at her home in Cairo, Georgia.

Services for Mrs. Strode will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 13, at the Cairo Church of God. Pastor DeWayne Atkinson and Pastor Michael Pillow will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Hazel was born May 17, 1942, in Decatur, Illinois, to Hazel Althea Beedle Emert and Fred Franklin Emert, Sr. Hazel was a caring person and worked as a nurse’s aide. She loved to knit and loved to work jigsaw puzzles. She worked as a nurse’s aide in Kentucky and at Walmart in Cairo for many years. Spending time with her family brought her so much joy. Being with her grandchildren was probably her greatest pleasure. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She was married to the love of her life, Marvin G. Strode. Hazel was a member of the Cairo Church of God. She fought a hard health battle and is now enjoying her home in Heaven. Hazel will be deeply missed.

Mrs. Strode is survived by her husband, Marvin G. Strode of Cairo; her children, Deborah Kay McCoy (Ronnie) of Clarksville, IN, Tina Rutland (Brian) of Cairo, David Lilly of Decatur, IL, and Blake Rawlings of Bainbridge, GA; step-children, Marvetta Rhodes (Dean) of Long Creek, IL, Marvin David Strode of Glasgow, KY, Mitchell Steven Strode of Donalsonville, GA, Victoria Diane Weidle (Charlie) of Tucson, AZ, Dena Strode Creek (Phil) of Donalsonville, Edward Rawlings (Margaret) of Dawsonville, GA, and Linda Gilbert of Cairo; grandchildren, Heather McCoy (Gina) of Jefferson, IN, Rachel McCoy of Clarksville, IN, Courtney Ladd (Michael) of Whigham, GA, Josh Lilly, Tyler Lilly, and Chad Lilly all of Decatur, IL, Elizabeth White of Hillsboro, IL, Nick Rawlings and Chase Rawlings of Colquitt, GA, John David Strode of Germany, and Mykalin McNease (Aaron) of Pensacola, FL; Great grandchildren Gavin and Madelynn (Courtney) of Whigham, GA, Carter and Willa (Rachel) of Clarksville, IN, Skylar Lovan (Heather) of Jeffersonville, IN, Lily (John David) of Berlin, Germany; her brother Leonard Emert of St. Louis, MO, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Fred Emert, Jr., her brother, Donald Emert and step-daughter, Candice Morton.
