John Bascom Childree

John Bascom Childree, 66, of Bainbridge, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2024.

John Bascom Childree was born April 4, 1958, in Bainbridge, GA, the son of Glenn & Addie Mae Poitivent Childree. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School and earned his electrical certification from Bainbridge College. John married Shannon Reyes in 1997, and they made their home in Bainbridge. He retired from Amoco Fabrics & Fibers as an electrician then worked for a time at Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA. John was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

John was a family man considered to be “a best friend to everyone”. He had friends and family all over the country who noted his humbleness and kind nature. John was one to help others at the drop of a hat no matter the need which often opened the door for him to share the Gospel. John enjoyed gardening (vegetables & fruit trees), canning, fishing, and tinkering with most anything.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years & eternal partner, Shannon Childree; his son, Ian Childree; his siblings, Roy Mills of Bainbridge, Glenn “Ty” Childree of Marietta, Roger Childree of Albany, Keith Childree of Texas, and Kasey Childree of Bainbridge; his sister-in-law, Eugenia Catteeuw of Dothan; his uncle, Edward Poitivent; his aunt, Mary Childree; and a host of extended family. John was preceded in death by his parents.
