Mr. Thomas Edward “Shorty” Smith passed away early Wednesday, July 14, 2022, at Memorial Manor in Bainbridge, Georgia at the age of 86 years old. Mr. Smith was born in Seminole County, Georgia on March 25, 1936, to his parents, Duke and Blanche Whitaker Smith. He served his country honorably in the United Stated Air Force and was retired from Amoco Fabrics in Bainbridge.
Services for Mr. Smith will be held at Cadwell Chapel of Cox Funeral Home in Bainbridge on Saturday, July 17 at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. David Grubbs will officiate at the service. Mr. Smith will be interred in Oakview Church of God cemetery in Donalsonville, Georgia. The service will end in the Chapel, where the family will receive friends.
A life-long resident of Decatur County, Mr. Smith enjoyed working in the yard and in his garden. He loved the Lord and was a very faithful servant of God. He was predeceased by his wife, Judy Faircloth Smith.
He is survived by his sisters Ginger McDowell, Helen Earnest and Barbara McDowell and her husband, James. He is also survived by his nieces Shannon Phillips and Anna DeVaul as well as nephews Randy Earnest, James W. McDowell, Jr., Bill Rathel, Jeff Rathel and Casey Smith.
Mr. Smith was predeceased by his parents, his wife and his siblings Hayward Smith, Maxie Smith, Linda Rathel, David Smith and Carlton Smith.
