Unto Us a Child is Born

James H. Cagle

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given” (Is. 9: 6 KJV).

Christmas time is when we celebrate God giving us His only begotten Son Jesus Christ in the form of a child born in Bethlehem’s manger. As a child, Jesus was born, as a Son He was given.

Jesus’ humanity is given through His birth as a child into the human race. Jesus’ deity has existed from eternity past. Jesus has been God from eternity past but became man at His Incarnation. He has always been God, but when He came as a child in the manger He became God-man. Jesus is fully man, and He is fully God. Jesus has the nature of a man and at the same time the nature of God. He is called Immanuel which means the presence of this Child brings God into our midst.

When God the Father gave us His Son He wrapped Him in humanity. Jesus came as a human to live like a human and then to die like a human. He as God performed miracles during His lifetime, and as God overcame death.

God giving to us His Son was not without purpose. When Jesus came, He was fulfilling the plans the Godhead made before the foundation of the world. Before there was ever a sinner there was already a Savior.

No child’s birth was more important and significant than Jesus Christ’. And no man’s death was more significant and important than Jesus’. Jesus came to fulfill God’s promises to send a Savior to His covenant people Israel and to all who believe and trust Him as Savior.

All men are sinners and there was not a Savior among us until God sent Jesus to us to die for us to save us. The penalty for our sins was death, and the sacrifice for our sins, the one to incur the wrath of God on our behalf and pay our sin debt had to be without spot and without blemish. And the only one that qualified was the One God sent, which was Jesus Christ.

May we remember this Christmas season the gift that God sent us in Jesus Christ; God wrapped up in humanity. He sent us a Savior, a Redeemer, a Deliverer, an Example, a Friend, and now our soon coming King.

From The Cradle To The Cross
The star shone bright over Bethlehem,
Above the cradle of the King;
From where His path led to Calvary,
 His gift of salvation to bring.
The wise men came to honor this Child,
With gold, frankincense, and myrrh,
This Sovereign of the universe,
The Incarnate, Living Word.
Lawyers were astonished at Him
By the wisdom He had of God’s will.
Which controlled His life, even though He knew
 It would lead Him to die on yon hill.
He preached to the people repentance,
Not far from the place of the cross;
Giving forgiveness through His blood
 He would shed there freely for the lost.
He grew in favor with God and man;
In flesh, He was the Great I Am.
He was born to die, to save mankind,
God’s spotless redemptive Lamb.
His life was so brief, His work was soon done,
Golgotha was now just ahead;
The Babe that was born in Bethlehem
Would now die as the prophets said.
Nails were driven through His hands and feet,
And with a spear his side was torn;
Life was now over for Jesus the man,
Who was the baby that to Mary was born.
There was no light on Calvary those hours,
When deep darkness covered the earth;
As the Son of God was sacrificed,
Who once lay in a manger at birth.
From the humble cradle to the Cross,
From Bethlehem to Calvary;
We celebrate Christ’ birth at Christmas,
Who was born to die for you and me.
