On Friday, February 26, 2021, at approximately 2333 hours, Corporal Aaron Austin was on patrol on Old Whigham Road. Cpl. Austin then noticed a scooter with 2 males, later named Charlie Bryant and Larry Wilson, not wearing helmets. Cpl. Austin then performed a traffic stop near the intersection of Whigham Dairy and Old Whigham. Deputy Jordan Phillips came to assist Cpl. Austin on the traffic stop. Cpl. Austin then asked for Larry’s information to run through E911. Larry came back wanted. Deputy Phillips then had E911 run Charlie’s information. Charlie Came back wanted. Larry and Charlie were then placed under arrest and transported to the Decatur County Jail. Both subjects were wanted out of the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office.

On Saturday, February 27, 2021, at approximately 2045 hours, Decatur County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) Investigator Vincent Edmond was off duty and located at his residence in Bainbridge, Georgia. Inv. Edmond received a phone call from another off-duty Deputy who advised that they had been monitoring DCSO radio traffic and had heard calls for assistance in reference to a DCSO Deputy being shot. Both offenders were arrested and transported to the Decatur County Jail. This case will be turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations for further investigation.
