James E. Stockton

May 18, 1925 – July 31, 2020

James E. Stockton, 95, of Brinson, GA, passed away Friday, July 31, 2020.

A private funeral service will be held at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Masciarelli officiating. Interment will be at Brinson Cemetery. Due to the ongoing concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, those attending are asked to maintain the recommended safe social distancing of six feet and/or wear protective masks in accordance with the State of Georgia guidelines.

James Elwyn Stockton was born May 18, 1925 in Attapulgus, GA, the son of Earl and Blanche Nichols Stockton. He was a graduate of Attapulgus High School and Georgia Institute of Technology. He proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army. James was a member of Brinson United Methodist Church.

James loved fishing and golfing; it did not matter if he was watching or playing either. He retired from Englehard as a mining engineer and made many friends in The Village. As a member of The Greatest Generation, James coveted relationships with friends and family. He knew the importance of hard work and the reality of sacrifice. He had a quiet demeanor but as a WWII veteran and a Tech grad, he could hold his own in the sharing circle.

Survivors include his children, James E. Stockton, Jr. and Sharon & Joey Brunson, all of Brinson, GA; his grandchildren, Sherri Brunson Hooper and Jan Brunson Green; and his great-grandchildren, Odin Green, Shauni Hooper, Mary Grace Hooper, and Parker Hooper. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Edith Hodges Stockton; and his brothers, Earl Stockton, Jr. and Charles Paxton Stockton.
