Barbara Dean Powell, 70, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2020.

Due to the ongoing concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, a private graveside funeral service will be held at Prosperity Primitive Baptist Church with Dr. Ron McCaskill officiating.

Barbara Joan Dean was born November 11, 1949 in Bainbridge, GA, the daughter of Douglas and Joan Eidson Dean. She was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1967 and University of Georgia, Class of 1971. Barbara married Rufus Powell in 1969. They made their home in Hawkinsville, returning to Bainbridge in 1993. Barbara was a member of First Baptist Church.

Barbara knew the meaning of being a true southern lady. Family gatherings were on point. She always had something to talk about and enjoyed sharing stories of her children and grandchildren. Barbara loved a good meal and could spout off recipes for most any dish…some she made up herself. She had a kind and giving spirit keeping an eye out for others ensuring no one went lacking.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Rufus Powell; her children, Jon & Kathy Powell of Cochran, GA and Matt & Courtenay Powell of Marietta, GA; her siblings, Kerry & Pam Dean of Climax, GA, Stanley & Kelly Dean of Sandy Springs, GA, and Krista & Dennis O’Brien of Savannah, GA; and her grandchildren, Abigayle, Evan, Maggie, Hannah, Blake, and Nathan. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents.

  2. I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR THIS ABOUT BARBARA. PRAYERS GOING UP AT THIS TIME AND FOR THE WEEKS THAT FOLLOW FOR HER FAMILY ….WHEN I CLOSE MY EYES , I CAN SEE HER IN HER BHS BASKETBALL UNIFORM… THE CLASS OF ‘67 WILL DEEPLY MISS YOU ….
