Margaret Chambers Farnell

March 3, 1934 – February 13, 2020

Margaret Chambers Farnell, 85, passed away February 13, 2020, in Tallahassee, Florida.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 17, 2020, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Kandace Brooks officiating. Visitation with the family will be held immediately following the service. Interment will be at Oak City Cemetery.

Margaret was born March 3, 1934 in Colquitt, Georgia, the daughter of John Chambers and Irelle Thompson Chambers. She was a graduate of West Bainbridge High School, Class of 1951, and attended Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro, Georgia. She married Henry Grady Farnell, Jr. in 1953 and they made their home in Bainbridge, Georgia. Margaret Chambers Farnell was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Bainbridge until the time she moved from Bainbridge in 2000.   The church was very important to Margaret as evidenced by her devotion to the church and love for her church family.   She loved music and sang in the church choir. She spent countless hours serving others. She found her fulfillment in giving to other people. She shared her many talents with the church as well as the Bainbridge Little Theater and many others. Margaret also lived in Marianna, Florida and in Dadeville, Alabama, where she also shared her talents with her church families and others whom she met. In 2016, she moved to Tallahassee to live with her daughter and son-in-law and was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her son, Hank Farnell, of Panama City Beach, Florida, her daughter and son-in-law, Gena Farnell and Rick Flaugher, of Tallahassee Florida; her best friend and niece, Jan Collier of Tallahassee, Florida; nephew, John McCarty of Austin, Texas; her step brothers, Chuck Chambers (JoAnne) and Craig Chambers, of Jacksonville, Florida; niece, Cheryl Chambers Gibson (Charles) of Ocilla, Georgia; nieces, Eve Harris (Bob Dickinson) of Alpharetta, Georgia, and Ellen Deaton (Randy) of Greenville, South Carolina; and niece, Judy Deriso (Wayne) of LaGrange, Georgia, and many other very close cousins and family members. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, H.G. Farnell, Jr.

The family would like to thank Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee, Florida, for the care and support they provided to Margaret and her family during her last days.
