Homecoming Parade

Why would the very people who are being motivated by the community for their big game tomorrow night- FOOTBALL PLAYERS- not be allowed to participate in the Homecoming Parade? I don’t know who makes that decision, but I think it is ridiculous! What reason could they possibly have to deny our boys this 1 hour activity the day before the big game?
Not only that, the JV had a game scheduled for 5pm yesterday(parade time) and their season supposedly ended after last week’s game….
Homecoming Parade was always about the BHS band, football, homecoming court, and cheerleaders… Not anymore…SAD

Comment by riley — October 31, 2009 @ 12:12 amThe team was at practice, Homecoming isnt just about football, its about the school, there is no rule that says the team has to be in the parade, yeah it would be nice but still what does it matter, I would rather them be on the practice field rather than in a parade.
Comment by biff tannen — November 1, 2009 @ 3:31 pmIn Bainbridge Homecoming has always been a part of the football season. I don’t know of a year it has ever been held during Baseball, Soccer, Tennis or Basketball or Track season. This is when the school elects their Homecoming King and Queen that is announced at the FOOTBALL game. The parade has always been a way for the community and the school’s clubs and organizations to cheer, motivate and show support for their football team. Apparently the school doesn’t even feel it is about support for the high school and not the football team because from what I saw they had the least amount of participation in the parade. I only saw 3 to 4 clubs from the high school. It was mostly elementary schools who had at least 2 entries, dance studios with 3 or 4 entries and beauty queens. All of these organizations spent TIME AND MONEY on their entries to show the BHS Bearcats they were behind them. There was only one thing their time and money didn’t accomplish and that was that the very people they were supporting was not seeing who their supporters were because they were not only NOT allowed to be in the parade they could not even GO to the parade because they had to practice. What a statement their coach sent when apparently he thought they needed to practice so badly they couldn’t have a couple of hours to see the support the community wanted to give. You say you would rather them be on the practice field than in a parade. I assume you too feel they needed this practice badly in order to WIN their homecoming game. WINNING is nice and important, BUT it isn’t everything. Our team hasn’t had all wins this season and what a great thing it would have been for our coach to let our boys see that our community was behind them WIN OR LOSE. I was disappointed and little sad that this has been allowed to happen in our community.
Comment by denise — November 1, 2009 @ 5:42 pmWhen it comes to making the playoffs and wins/losses on the field, yes winning is everything. I saw plenty of support for the team, band, cheerleaders etc. AT the game itself. If you wanna see the team go to a game where it matters, on the field not on a float.
Comment by biff tannen — November 2, 2009 @ 5:58 pmI believe the coach knew what was best so it is his choice. I agree with biff, at the game is where you need to be if you want to see them.
Comment by swga2 — November 8, 2009 @ 12:26 amWOW! I cant believe what I just read!It does matter to see them on a float, when we are celebrating a part of what they stand for!!Celebrating what they have accomplished thus far.Better yet letting them celebrate, unwind and have a little fun.One hour away from practice wouldnt have changed a thing. It really may have pumped them up even more! But when people see one way of doing things and no room for trying something different or change, how can anything ever improve.I dont see their way of thinking being positive influences on our children!
Comment by culversonn — November 12, 2009 @ 1:27 amWOW! seriously, there are lots of problems out there and more things to be concerned over than the football team being in a freaking parade. get over it.
