I’m on the river every weekend with my family having fun and enjoying the water. This past sunday a young boy almost lost his life. Thankfully he didn’t but maybe this will be a wakeup call we all need.

The New High School

I would suggest to everyone in Decatur to go on the August 2nd tour of the New High School. The school is beautiful and magnificent. This definitely is a school that students should take pride in attending.

Teachers get the shaft. Again!

Public school teachers, I applaud you for all you do. Now our governor has decided to slap you in the pocketbook again. 3 day furlough for teachers to be used to cut the state budget deficit. This to make up for years of wasteful spending by the legislature.

school bus pick-up

I was told that in our neighborhood our children will have to be picked up at one location. Well here’s the thing, we have a child molester at both ends of the block.

Now would they be willing to send their children to one of these corners? I don’t think so. Another question is it going to be the same for the Lake Douglas people or are they to special to have to do this?
Signed think about it!

Gas Prices, Again

Okay.  Here we go again.  Why can I drive to
Colquitt ($2.29),
Donalsonville ($2.15),
Dothan ($2.16) and
Albany ($2.21)
(these prices were as of Friday) and get gas cheaper than here in Bainbridge where the terminal is actually located (Yeah, I know these terminals are not the ones supplying Albany and Dothan).

Why don’t we have talent shows?

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 1:16 am

gapeach81 writes

I was reading some posts on another subject and came accross this question… Why don’t we have talent shows for holidays? Why not. We all tune to American Idol and Americas Got Talent and seem to love it, so why not have an event to show off all the talent Bainbridge has.

A local talent show could bring much needed revenue, provide entertainment for future events and save money on entertainment for these events. It could also give our citizens a sense of pride. I like this idea but who do we talk to to get things set in motion and get the idea out there?

So the BOE has a tough decision, eh?? (article here)

“Well, I’ll Be!” Wake Up Decatur County! Take Notice, Ask Questions.

Whereas once upon a time there was one Superintendent, we now how several “Assistant Supers”, where as we once had one principal and one vice or assistant, there now are “Lead Teachers”~~ basically another assistant principal! The school secretaries have secretaries!!! And the secretary’s secretary has a para, or secretary! On top of that, there are “Coaches” for every subject!! Math Coaches, Reading Coaches, a science coach, technology coaches….

Tuesday, July 21st City Council Meeting

myviewpoint writes

It’s time all of you got together and go to the City Council Meeting at City Hall at 6:30 pm and let THEM KNOW how you feel about the 9 city employees being laid off. Isn’t it a shame that furloughs weren’t even considered?

City lays off employees…

Category: General Comments — mike @ 11:44 pm

Mike writes

As we all know, tough economic times have forced virtually every business to make decisions that ultimately affect the lives of its employees either by reducing pay, benefits, or their employment.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems like less than two years ago we were increasing several salaried city employees pay to bring them in line with like cities pay & benefits.

4th of July Celebration

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 1:57 am

Jweiss writes

Leigh Mullis was spectacular! Her song line up was surprising for someone her age, classic hits from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and current. The band played very well and can’t wait to see her again locally!! Danielle Peck was professional and polished, I have to say we enjoyed Leigh Mullis 10 fold more. :)

The firework display was dazzling and well done. It was a relaxed, laid back afternoon and I enjoyed it with my sons and friends. Thank you Bainbridge for putting together and very enjoyable 4th celebration.

Outsiders who love South GA

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 1:51 am

JacksonvilleFlorida writes

Hi there,
I am from Jacksonville Florida. I joined this forum to express my appreciation for the beauty of rural Georgia and Alabama. I have seen my fair share of states throughout this country, and few match the beauty of these two states. Although I love Florida deeply, GA and AL are two states I love to enjoy my time in.
