In regard to “Dogs Attacking Dogs”

This is an outrage!! When is Decatur county going to start protecting its citizens and their legitimate pets??!! You’ve passed the leash law ordinance, now why not start enforcing it??!!

My mother is Joanne Johns who was mauled by no less than nine vicious dogs, who “supposedly” didn’t belong to anyone, on Jan. 6 on Johnny Skipper Road. I continue to be appalled at the number of dog incidents and the seeming lack of purposeful effort in containing this ongoing problem.  What has to happen??

This is not rocket science! Now that you have your ordinance, can’t the unleased and unregistered dogs be taken in by animal control and put to sleep if these animals are not claimed and registered? If there isn’t enough manpower to handle the problem, then do something about it!! The dog problem wouldn’t be so huge if something had been done about a lot sooner.  Also, why is Mr. Eddie Alday never available when needed to respond these vicious dog attacks?? He was not available the morning my mother was attacked.

The tax-paying citizens of Decatur county deserve better and are entitled to be protected by the appropriate officials.

Biomass Plant possible for Bainbridge?

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 4:34 pm

LT1 writes

Is it possible to take Tallahassee’s loss and turn it into Decatur County’s gain.  What would it take to have the company look at this area as a prospect for their plant. I am sure there are plenty of areas in this county that could accommodate such a plant, think of the jobs, tax base and revenue that could be realized with this company locating here.. Time for the City and County administrators to work together to make this a reality.

Home Gardeners?

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 1:00 am

cardor writes

Spring is almost here and it will soon be time for all of us home gardeners to get started. I have been working on my compost pile for several months now. I have even received some donations from my neighbors towards my compost pile.

I am sure that there are others who compost, since it’s a win - win practice. Not only do you reduce land fill waste, the end result gives you some great fertilizer. What a concept. Maybe you would like to share some of your own composting or gardening tips. Come on now, we all love bragging about our gardens.

Wow…it finally happened…

a Kentucky high school football coach was criminally charged in the death of Max Gilpin, a 15 year-old offensive lineman at Pleasure Ridge Park high school who died last summer after collapsing at practice. The charge is reckless homicide.

Not many facts have emerged. But it seems that the coach, David Jason Stinson, was directing practice on August 20, during 94 degree heat, when Gilpin collapsed and was brought to the hospital with a body temperature of 107 degrees. No autopsy was performed, reports the AP, but it appeared Gilpin died from complications from heat stroke, according to the coroner’s office.

Congrats to Darnell Holley

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 12:32 am

Clifford writes

First of all, I would like to say congratulations from myself and my family to Darnell Holley on winning the Kiwanis Clubs ‘Man of the Year’ award. This award couldn’t have went to a more deserving person. Darnell’s caring and positive attitude toward helping others is highlighted everyday.

I know this because I work with him everyday and I see this first hand. We all should take his example and use it in our daily lives. Caring and helping others is not a job it’s required and I’m sure his family is very proud of him. Darnell’s work habits are exemplary. He never wavers when asked to help someone. He never makes excuses or shirks responsibility. He is well deserving of this award and I salute him.

Your Friend and co-worker, Clifford Gordon

City Budget $343,000 Critical

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 11:33 pm

infohungry writes

the city has a deficit so i can’t see why they are letting out of town dealers come to town and set up temporary car lots to sell their vehicles when it is taking away from the dealers here in town. If people want to drive out of town to purchase vehicles that is fine the city still gets the sales tax from the sales

the only thing this accomplishes is that the dealers that are here in town year round lose sales to these guys which put them closer to financial troubles than they already are, which could mean closings! If bainbridge keeps losing businesses they are going to be a lot more than 343,000.00 in the hole!

Open Season on “strays”

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 11:26 pm

Rossie writes
God forbid someones favorite family pet is clever enough to get out of their fenced yard and wanders into one of these people’s sights. I’m all for protecting yourself and your family, but come on…. these are God’s creatures, too!!

Let me begin by saying this animal control problem will never get any better until the powers that be take it seriously. I love ALL animals but I do have a soft spot for dogs! I live in the county and have picked up countless strays (a few of which became family members:) that irresponsible people have dropped off or let run free!

Gone in 13 days

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 3:40 am

Adjudicator writes

It is obvious to me that my group has done little good here in this community. Way to many “wants”. Gimme, Gimme, Gimme something for free… That was not the intention of this group.
Therefore it will soon be gone.

My thanks go out to the few in this area who have had the spirit I once had when I formed the group. It is obvious to me now that Bainbridge and Decatur County needs to mature much more greatly than I ever imagined.

County Road Paving

I would like to know where in the world are you commisioners driving??? Have any of you been down Woodhull Road and Edwards Road. Obviously NOT. These two roads ARE without a doubt the worse in Decatur County.

We have big trucks on these roads everyday. Woodhull most of all!! Dairy trucks up and down hauling stinking dairy food that makes a mess of the road much less how it smells.

Garbage Service

Category: Uncategorized — Larry @ 11:06 pm

Sonya Weathersby writes

In my busy schedule I can’t imagine having my garbage picked up once a week. What are we suppose to do with the excess overflow of garbage. I don’t have time to run to the city dump during the week as well as many other people who work and don’t have the time. Furthermore, the dump is at the Florida state line. I don’t mind paying more for pick up. I have learned that you have to have a burn permit inside the city limits and only certain things you can burn then. Even outside the city limits, I was told I couldn’t burn card board boxes or any other house hold trash. Only tree limbs and leaves. Chris Hobby needs to come up with a better solution or our city could turn into one big garbage pile. If anyone has a solution I would really love to hear it!

Vicious Dog Attack

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 11:00 pm

ryno writes

In reference to the Dog Attack article:

My aunt lives less than 100 yards from where this attack happened. She has been complaining about these dogs for weeks now and hasn’t been able to get anything done. I knew they had to be “bad” or else she wouldn’t complain, but I just didn’t realize they were this BAD!

My children and my cousins all play in her yard on weekends and on holidays as we did when we were young. Her house (where my father was raised) has always been a safe place for our families. — This could have been one of our family members!
