On Sheep, Wolves and Sheepdogs

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 1:49 am

Sheep Dog writes

A long read but a good one
(From the book, On Combat, by Lt. Col. Dave Grossman)

“Honor never grows old, and honor rejoices the heart of age. It does so because honor is, finally, about defending those noble and worthy things that deserve defending, even if it comes at a high cost. In our time, that may mean social disapproval, public scorn, hardship, persecution, or as always, even death itself.
The question remains: What is worth defending? What is worth dying for? What is worth living for?”

- William J. Bennett
In a lecture to the United States Naval Academy
November 24, 1997

Cell Tower

Category: Decatur County Controversy — Larry @ 9:38 pm

mrsyolandawatts writes

Why is it everytime someone comes to this community to build it up, we have people with outrageous excuses to try and keep them out!!! A company like AT & T comes to bring a tower which will mean a better selection of cellular service and maybe even jobs in the future and I read about people with the sorriest excuses like their grandchildren getting exposed to somethin that can’t cause harm unless their grandchild is somehow at the top of the antenna.

BHS Band

taximom writes

I have been wondering something for a while now. Why is the BHS Band Color Guard ignored? I have looked at pictures of every football game and there are hardly any of them. I can count on one hand the number of pictures taken of them.

Innocent People Ask for Help

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 10:36 pm

I am felt with great sorrow and heartbreak when I think of the family that had to deal with the horrible murder at Inland. I have to ask the community if it is worth it. Is it worth it to have innocent families harassed by the police.

Murder at the Inland Store

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 10:08 pm

cousinbubba writes

I have been a customer of that store for years. The owner knows me by name and his wife and son always had very good things to say. Several times she would be eating her indian cooking and would say that I needed to try it..you’ll like. (I already like Indian food so, yes I would have) The useless murder of someone for a few dollars is a tragedy of large proportion.

Broken Window Theory

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 3:41 pm

Adjudicator writes

True for our area?

The Broken Window theory was the brainchild of the criminologists James Q. Wilson and George Kelling. They argued that crime is the inevitable result of disorder. If a window is broken and left unrepaired, people walking by will conclude that no one cares and no one is in charge. Soon, more windows will be broken, and the sense of anarchy will spread from the building to the street on which it faces and then beyond, sending a signal that anything goes.

Boating on the Flint

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 5:10 pm

dorsey writes

Everyone enjoys the Flint River, but the weekend boaters show no respect for the land owners.  The speed boats do high speed turns in front of our docks and bank areas with no regards about bank erosion or damage to property. There is a lot of river area away from residents where no damage would exist, but like everyone else no thought occurs.
And we do NOT enjoy your boom boxes!  The water magnifies the sound and rattles our windows.

Thanks, Old River Rat

What going on??

heartbroke07 writes

What going on in Bainbridge. The gas rises and everything goes down. American Fibers and Yarn is closing the doors this month and there are hardly any jobs in Bainbridge. What about those single mothers, or husband and wifes who both are employed there? What are they expected to do, just start over? With the gas prices and living cost how are we expected to make it?

My heart goes out to the AFY employees. Just pray, God works in mysterious ways!
