Dr Bill Cosby Speaks

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 1:04 am

fregrace writes

on May 17, 2004, Constitution Hall, Washington D.C.
at the 50th Anniversary commemoration of Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court Decision

Ladies and gentlemen, I really have to ask you to seriously consider what you’ve heard, and now this is the end of the evening so to speak. I heard a prize fight manager say to his fellow who was losing badly, “David, listen to me. It’s not what’s he’s doing to you. It’s what you’re not doing.”

Ladies and gentlemen, these people set — they opened the doors, they gave us the right, and today, ladies and gentlemen, in our cities and public schools we have 50% drop out. In our own neighborhood, we have men in prison. No longer is a person embarrassed because they’re pregnant without a husband. No longer is a boy considered an embarrassment if he tries to run away from being the father of the unmarried child.

Displaying the U.S. Flag in bad weather

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 4:17 pm

DemonHunter writes

United States Code Title 4 Chapter 1 - The Flag Section 6 Part C states “The flag should not be displayed on days when the weather is inclement, except when an all-weather flag is displayed. “

I’m sure that I will be told that all the following flags are all-weather, but I doubt it.

Bearcat Football….Finally!

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 4:31 am

biff tannen writes

It’s finally football season once again and what a season it’s going to be. With Coach Pilcher working his new offense with the explosive Bearcat players, it should be exciting to watch. Not to mention Aug. 23 against Cairo. I just wish the community would show more support for the team, Shotwell St. businesses should have purple & gold out, signs up etc. pumping the team up.

Either way it’s going to be fun. Go Bearcats!!

Bainbridge College - New Fees

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 4:38 am

JustAMom writes

Has anyone noticed that Bainbridge College has tacked on another fee for college students last week? Apparently, students are being forced to pay an additional $125 for a “Student Life” fee, which is separate from the $50 Student Activities Fee. The Student Life fee is a fundraiser for a future student center, I am told.

Decatur Cnty Animal Laws

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 1:26 pm

Tone writes

I have read the new proposed animal laws (see it) and think that the county is out of line. Why should we have to pay the price of the few citizens, that allow their animals to roam. The county seems not to want us to have pets, thats why I move to the country. Dogs are going to bark, what do you want us to do cut their vocal cords out.

Tragic Bus Accident

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 12:48 pm

just a citizen writes

I know I have complained about our children and the bus routes. But this has nothing to do with that. This is a very tragic sad story. These poor kids and people are suffering from a terrible accident that could of been prevented. These are all innocent victims of tragedy. My heart breaks watching the video.

Where are the cops?

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 12:44 pm

Peaches writes

It is no secret that Broughton Street is a bad area. Everything under the sun takes place here, but where is the security? This area would be a lot better if the people who live here would care. They should care enough about the environment that they are raising their children in. The people should not let everybody come here and tear down their place of abode.

Quote from unknown…

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 4:37 am

lrw writes

I read a quote today online by an unknown author, it read:
It’s not the bullet with my name on it that concerns me; it’s the one that reads “To Whom It May Concern”

This is crazy and things need to change-my God, the girl was only 21 years old, haven’t even started experiencing “LIFE” yet, but yet another innocent child is left motherless

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 12:50 pm

At the comment from concernedjones that included
Bainbridge has a group of white “thugs” hanging around business parking lots until early into the morning hours with a total disrespect for anyone or anything (including the Police). This is a young motorcycle gang that I am told goes by the gang name “Dangerous Decisions”.

DSL near Brinson// County Wireless?

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 1:03 am

scschwa writes

So I live off Yates Springs near Spring Creek and Yates Springs. About 6 months ago, AT&T/Bellsouth put up a large series of boxes at the corner there. I had stopped off and asked one of the techs if it was for DSL, because there were quite a lot of components going in and they seemed to be hooking a lot of power into it.

He told me it was, and that it should rollout in a month or two. So I periodically call Bellsouth to check on status, and I was getting responses from them that there was a problem at the CO in town (Bainbridge, near Broughton) with it not having enough switches to bring the relay at Spring Creek/Yates Springs online.
