I was reading in the incidents for April 21 regarding a neighbor calling deputies about problems they were having. When the deputies went to this particular home, they found a Colt .45 on the front porch. The worst thing about this is that they had several small children (2 three year olds, and a seven year old) in the house. What is it going to take for people to realize their irresponsibility? Leaving a gun on the porch loaded? Or the other guns loaded in the master bedroom? With such small children? This is insane!

I have been taking care of the elderly, disabled and handicapped for most of my adult life. I have done this not only as a profession but also as a life calling.

I don’t know how many people use this part of town but i know there is a heck of a lot of traffic and the other day CSX were out there working on the tracks and all i could think was thank God! It is so rough that if you go over it in a new car it makes it sound like a clunker!!! After they finished this one day job guess what it is even worse!!

Having lived in Bainbridge for only a couple of years, I am not acquainted with all of the ins and outs of Decatur County. But being that Earth Day has just passed and everyone is in the conservation mode, why is there not a recycling project in Decatur County?

Most other Counties have bins to place recyclables, but as of yet I have not found one in Decatur. Is it a lack of funding or just an oversight by the city/county?

Enough is enough, TOO MUCH FOR GAS. Any ideas, Locally what can we can do. Does anyone know what tax Bainbridge or Decatur County gts per gallon. Or State. We have got to do something. If our Local Govt., can lower the taxes we might get business in our town that we usually do not get and it would make up for the cut taxes.

Girl Scout Troop 95 would like to think WalMart for allowing us to sell girl scout cookies twice on two separate occasions. We would especially like to thank two people that went beyond their job to make me and my girls get what we need and they are Sharon McLendon which is the Community Coordinator and Mr. Roy. They have allowed not just our troop but also other troops along with other community organizations. Our troop is thankful for what they have brought to our community. Again, thank you WalMart!

We want to send a great big thank you to several of your wonderful citizens.
On Friday we made a trip to your city taking one our daughters friends from ABAC. As luck would have it, while there our battery decided to die. To make a long story short, without any hesitation many citizens offered not only help and advice but also a lot of patience while we figured out what was wrong.
We are so grateful to David Edwards, Kenneth Myles, Paul Hicks, and Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Dow, thank you so much to all of you! Bainbridge, you should be so proud to have these kind people in your community!

The article about the 15 year old juvenile offender stirred up an issue of concern. One reader felt that “it’s not this child’s fault that he is the way he is” and what I wrote was very wrong.

I am an 18 year old married college student, and have one child. I have a problem with some of the comments you made about the 15 year old with the guns. I don’t think it is very professional, nor adult of you to be making comments such as:

just heard on the scanner that mildred is passed out on the corner so they sent an ambulance (our tax dollars) to take her to the hospital yet again.

The Juvenile Delinquency Community Forum will be Thursday, April 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Fairgrounds building. Captain Cecilia Willis will share the results of the youth surveys conducted which questioned some real issues for teens.
We will be identifying the programs/activities we want to work on putting in place to address the juvenile crime issue.

The Family Connection Collaborative will meet Friday, April 11 at noon at Friendship House on Russ Street. Our CATS for Youth will be making a presentation so I encourage everyone to come and support them. Lunch will be provided. Please let Ami know by Wednesday if you will be attending the Collaborative meeting and eating lunch. amejia@bainbridge.edu

I wanted to say thank you to everyone who was involved in the Cameron Brock Benefit. Not only was it successful in it’s goal but also it was a great concert the entertainment was right up there with any concert i have ever been to!

I couldn’t have been more satisfied and delighted with the caliber of professionalism!!! For those of you that didn’t make it i am truly sorry because there has never been a better concert in Bainbridge. No delays and top notch performances by all. Thanks again for the support from all who donated and especially to all who showed up to show this wonderful little boy how much love is in this town and surrounding towns! He smiled through the whole show!! you guys made this child so happy

Good to see all the discussion here lately; I’d like to hear possible solutions to exterminate the dang fire ants. In my neighborhood, this appears to be a banner year for the pests!

Previously my most effective method was to firebomb them - pour a cup of gasoline down the hole, give it a minute then drop a match & watch it burn. This is a temporary fix of course, some survive and rebuild nearby. I am not sure if that’s legal or ethical and I know it is very dangerous.

I read recently that a liter of club soda would replace the air and kill a mound with absolutely no environmental consequences. On my way out to buy a couple cases, it was explained to me why that wouldn’t work. If only it was that clean and simple.

Please share your ideas. Next week we need to work on mosquitos.
