Say Goodbye to 3 million+ dollars!

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 11:18 pm

wthbdge writes

On Tuesday night our county commission voted to “donate” $3,000,000 to the State of Georgia towards the $35,000,000+ purchase of the Silver Lake Property. The county didn’t have the money, so the commission voted to borrow the money to give to the state.

Girl Missing Again And Again

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 1:31 pm

sallyeanne writes

As a close friend of this child and her mother-I am glad this situation has come to light, however some of the statements in the brief article are incorrect–dfacs and many of the case workers have responded on many occasions to this situation and have given support to the child and mother–and they continue to seek assistance for both.

What about a Litton Hines Day ?

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 5:59 pm

Johnboy writes

I was reading recently where the City of Climax has scheduled March 1, 2008 as James Butler Day in honor of his participation in the Super Bowl for which he was well compensated for.

I also read recently where Climax resident Litton Hines stopped at a traffic accident, picked a car up off a young victim, and kept her alive until EMS and Public Safety arrived. (article)

Sign Ordinance vs Freedom of Speech?

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 12:02 am

caresalot writes

Is it just me or does the City Sign Ordinance(pdf) seems to restrict our freedom of speech? I don’t know about everyone else, but I will be voting for a few more than 2 candidates this year.

I assumed everyone could put as many signs in their yard as they desired, but apparently city residents can only display two per lot??

4th of July Music

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 11:56 pm

Lauren Rentz writes

I read that there will be two country singers performing this year on the 4th of July at the fireworks celebration. I would like to know who gets to choose what type of music is performed. Why don’t we get to vote on this?

Is it just me, or is there anyone else out there who would prefer rock and roll?? If there are two acts, why can’t one act be country and one act rock and roll? Just because one person likes country music does not mean the rest of us do. It’s not fair to let country music dominate.

Racism…it never seems to die.

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 5:10 pm

sirduke writes

I recently took my son, who is bi-racial to a local barber shop for a hair cut. The owner there took great delight in informing me that he didn’t cut “his” kind of hair. Not willing to cause a scene in front of my child, I left, but called him via phone and asked why he refused to cut my child’s hair. His reply was that my son wasn’t “one of us” and he didn’t cut N****r hair.

Litter at the walking park

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 10:40 pm

formerdawg writes

I love walking and exercising at the park located at Evans and Boulevard behind the movie theaters. I am writing this to hopefully bring awareness to the growing problem of litter at the park and in hopes that maybe someone within the city government will read it and take action.

Several Minutes With Mildred…

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 1:12 pm

Charles “DuBoy” Cooper writes

First, thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing “Several minutes with Mildred.” I know her and have known her almost all of my 58 years.

I think, the last time I saw her was Sunday, January 18, 2004, asleep on the ground beside the road near the burn barrel at the intersection of Cemetary and Helen streets, as the funeral procession return from my mom’s burial to her trailer in the community called the Pare Orchard. My mom use to feed her often.

How to stimulate the local economy??

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 5:37 am

mike writes

What are some realistic ways our City and County can do to grow the economy? With all of the automakers building plants in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, the south has become the new Detroit.

Enterprise, Alabama has a 500 employee Hyundai plant. West Point, Georgia has a Kia Plant. Huntsville, Alabama has a Toyota plant, Lincoln, Alabama has a Honda plant, and Vance, Alabama has a Mercedes Plant.

I’m excited about the plans for the marina and downtown projects that will entice people to our community, but in reality, it’s better paying jobs that’s the real need.
What are some other ways to stimulate the economy?
