Thank you

Category: General Comments — hwhite @ 8:19 am

Thank you Sgt. Henley for taking the time with the child that you did and going through that whole ordeal. I don’t know the child or his mother but we do need more advocates out there for the most vulnerable members of our society, the children.

Sgt. Henley could have simply turned him over to the mother but he took the time to try to find out what was happening and to show that child that there was someone there who felt he was worth the effort and time. The child has got to know he has some support out there now. kudos.

Long Hot Bus Rides

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 9:59 pm

So why should we air condition buses you ask?

Well, a few years back we implemented pre-K and have gradually begun the school year earlier each year. We now have 4 & 5 year olds riding the bus. Their little systems simply can’t handle the intense heat we experience in our area, especially during the month of August. An article ran in the local paper with this same title at the beginning of the 2006-2007 school year. The article struck me to the core. I could not believe that our school system has not made air conditioning the buses a budgeted priority.

Something has got to give!!!

Category: General Comments — hwhite @ 3:15 pm

I have been heart and blood pressure (serious blood pressure) issues lately. I was sitting in class and felt like I needed to go to the emergency room right away because I had stroke and heart attack symptoms. It takes alot for me to even go to the doctor. I signed in. The ladies were busy looking up recipes on the internet, but they finally addressed my presence and I was asked to take a seat. Goodness….good thing I had not been having a heart attack or stroke! We waited there for a very, very, very long time. Not so much as a concerned face poking out from the back to check my blood pressure really quickly or to even check if I was blue. Accross from me sat a child that had been hit in the face with a baseball bat. The hit was hard enough that there was blood spray all over his body and clothing. There was a large group of kids that rode up on bikes and were running through the hallways (by the way, there was a security guard outside). This lasted at least 15 minutes or more. These were teenagers. The last straw was when the woman two seats down got up grabbing her back in agony saying they had not spoken her since two and a half, three hours earlier. The waiting room’s floor was nasty, the trash can was overflowing. I did not wish to die there. I decided to leave and check my blood pressure elsewhere. We told them we could not wait for someone and may go to another Hospital. Why does someone who has the symptoms of stroke or heart attack have to drive 30 miles away when time is essential for survival? Why is a hospital nasty? Why did the staff not care when we said we needed to be seen so we were going to a hospital 30 miles away? This is not the first time we have been through this in the emergency room, it is almost every time over the years. Obviously more staffing or better management is needed.

At last! Someone with courage!

A Lousiana town passed a city ordinance to fine anyone wearing sagging pants that expose their underwear or “private areas”. I think it’s about time that someone let’s these teens know (black, white, puerto rican, oriental, I don’t care) that nobody wants to look at their drawers or buttcracks.

I wish that someone local (HINT, HINT) would pass a similar law.
Way to go Delcambre Louisiana!

Lets clean up Grady County before our own

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 4:15 am

Ash-Kicker writes

The County approved a request from Grady County Commissioners to have DCCI inmates work in their County cleaning the roadways in Grady County. There would be no cost to the taxpayers of Decatur County.

Commissioner Mosely stated we have a lot of garbage and refuse on our roads now. He stated he would hope we would clean our own house before we clean someone else’s.

Drug test people on government assistance

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 4:52 am

jester writes

First off, I don’t like controversy. My main goal in life is to be at peace and find as much happiness in life as I can before I die. Now that I have said that, I can say this. Sorry people who have nothing better to do with their time than sit around and cogregate, steal, and or sell drugs, are impeading my ability to seek such peace and happiness as described above.

I understand that the police cannot be everywhere all the time. I understand that they are outnumbered 100 to 1. God bless them for what they do for us, but enough is enough. The police are swamped, so why don’t we act through our government? Why don’t we write to our governmental officials and request that every person seeking, or currently on governmental assistance be given random drug screens? If they fail the screen, the assistance ends. If they get caught commiting a crime in stead of finding employment, the assistance ends. If they get caught assisting a criminal in escaping from the police, the assistance ends.

Honors Day

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 9:48 pm

Lauren Rentz writes

I want to share something that happened recently to my son on Honors Day at the high school. If you are familiar with Honors Day, you know it is not an easy task to receive an academic subject award. The percentage of students recognized is very small compared to those who are just watching. So if a student has earned an award, he or she deserves to have a moment of recognition.

It doesn’t matter if they seem to have gotten many awards; they have obviously worked hard for each and every one. So, with this year my son’s final year, he had a couple of disappointments that morning.

$55,000—A Lot of Money for Inexperience. What Qualifications?

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 5:06 pm

wfross writes

I was a strong proponent of establishing a Human Resource Department for our County Government and yes it’s been long overdue. I just think that there was at least one other applicant whose credentials are very much more impressive and perhaps better qualified for this position.

We just read and participated in a few threads that mention qualifications so qualifications are very important. I remember hearing and reading many comments about equality and fairness and best qualified.
