traffic control

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 11:38 am

How do you get the Bainbridge police dept to enforce posted traffic laws. I live on Douglas Dr, between Hwy 27 and Lake Douglas Rd, that is posted 35 mph and no trucks. One deputy sheriff said he has clocked vehicles on my St at 53 mph and it has become a veritable truck route for local trucks. Pleas to the police dept have fallen on deaf ears. I was told that it was impossible to stop truck traffic on my St. and that whoever had decided to post it no trucks was an idiot. My reply was, Is it not your job to enforce the laws, or just the ones you please?

4th Anniversary Approaching!

Category: General Comments — Adjudicator @ 9:33 am

May 1st is a day you might want to commemorate is some fashion suitable to your own views on the subject. It is the 4th anniversary of the day our President, toted up in full military regalia, stood on the deck of an aircraft carrier emblazoned with the White House provided banner, “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED”, and assured us that “major combat has ended”. Since that infamous day, over 3,327 American service members have died in combat; over 25,000 have been wounded; about 100,000 or more Iraqi’s have died; a trillion or so dollars has gone down the drain; the United States of America is distrusted throughout the world; and our nation is divided as ever since the Civil War.

Something To Think About… (??)

In regards to the many comments about the “pedophile”

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 4:37 pm

Claire Whitehead writes

First off I would like to thank “orlai” for what they said. I have yet to decide if it is right to victimize this person. Or to talk about courage and bravos. Nevertheless, I feel for her family and they are in my prayers just as much as my own family is.

I am sure that every single one of you that wrote a comment never thought that this man’s 16 year old daughter would read the horrible things that you wrote about her father.
I know that what he did was wrong, and in no way do I stand up for any of his actions. He had no basis or excuse. But neither do you. How can you write such horrible and terrible things about a situation that I doubt any of you know about?!

These are the people and lies that make me hate Bainbridge. Do you have no sympathy for me and my brother and sister? Not only are all of you running your mouths, but you even have the audacity to say something about it in front of my 4 year old sister! Quite frankly this is none of your business.

To the students that support my father. What is wrong with you?! How can you believe that anything he has done is okay? And how dare you even think about saying “Free Whitehead”? I know that my father made a postive influence on many student’s lives (whether many of you want to believe it or not). But after all of you left high school you were never going to talk to him or see him again. He was my father. I would see him everyday for the rest of my life. How can you say that you are upset or you want to see him again? What about his children, what about us? Are you so selfish that you can only be upset for yourself and him? Any support for him by any of you is thoughtless.

To everyone who has been there for me and my mom all I can do is say thank you. Your support has been so tremendous, I am just in shock. I know that we are strong enough to get through this and it is a comfort to know that so many people have our back. Due to the enormous amount of support, we know that this is and will continue to be our home.

To the people who can only run their mouths. Stop being gossip mongers who choose to fuel this fire as a way to distract everyone from your own burning houses!
Please pray for my family and the student’s family. I know that God is in control of this situation and that one day, even though that day may be far away, everything will be alright. My family is strong, and only getting stronger.

The High School teacher that was arrested….I wonder if he has a past history of this at another school in another town?? Be interesting to know! If so, who checks backgrounds on people like this? I highly doubt this was his first time!!

Should the City Help BikeFest?

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 2:24 am

BikeFest has asked the City for some help. Article Here
What do you think?
Should the City and County help a volunteer, non-profit organization that brings in millions in tourism revenue and actually provides tens of thousands in tax money to the City, County and our School System?

Proactive vs. Reactive….with our youth

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 5:38 pm

opinatedmom writes

So now that it is obvious to those in the community that we have a gang problem and youth MUST be help accountable, What will we do? Keep our heads in the sand and hope we are not the next victim or our child is not getting stitches?

I have attended Mr. Mac Fomby’s Gang Awareness training, have his DVD that is full of resources, and am very aware of the youth in particular that are involved.

For too long these youth have been sliding by with slaps on the hands, partially due to legislative mandates that tie the hands of the legal system. They take pride in their criminal histories collectively, yet huddle like a beaten puppy when confronted individually (one on one).

Blood Donation Drive

Category: General Comments — sirduke @ 3:36 pm

I have always donated blood in the past, having obtained more than one gallon pin, but sadly no longer am allowed.
I spent three years in Germany in the 80’s and for some reason that disqualifies me.
However, I urge anyone who is able to do so. It might be your family member who needs it one day.
Who knows, the life you save may even be your own.

What Will It Take (????)

Category: General Comments — Adjudicator @ 8:27 pm

To get Bainbridge and Decatur County in sync with the 21st century? For the moment, let’s forget our silly ass-backwards politics. Economically wise, what (in your opinion), is needed to make the area a better place for expansion for our potential business community? This is a “no-blame” zone. Since our area needs development that only outside $$$ can provide, just what should we do as a community to foster this? No religious or similar anecdotes, PLEASE!

Sound OFF, now!

Armed and Dangerous

Category: General Comments — hwhite @ 6:52 am

Ok, someone has to write this post. We had an inmate that had armed robbery crimes and was considered armed and dangerous working on a work crew, disappear, and no one knew he was missing? He should have never been put in the position he was in no matter how good his prison behavior was or what minimal time may have been left on his sentence. Good for the citizen that called when spotting him. I have young daughters driving in this county, I don’t need to have to worry about this too!

Mandy Flynn

Category: General Comments — baxter @ 5:24 pm

I just read Mandy Flynn’s column about some little league baseball fans and all I can say is, “Way to go, girl!” She hit the nail on the head. I’d love to see more of her stuff on the website.

Troop Support

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 4:58 pm

Meanda Writes

I would like to send out a huge Thank You to the community. The outreach and support from private citizens and businesses in support of our troops has been wonderful. I cannot say enough about the efforts of the public to assist us with a special needs request for a departing soldier and his family.

local government is stepping on our toes

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 10:51 pm

slowhandgroupie says

I had a rude awakening to local bureaucracy with the sign ordinance fiasco last fall. I totally agree that the historical committee has way too much power. They are not elected and I don’t think they should have the last word in how to roof your house or what kind of fence or siding to put on it.

Arresting Kids

Category: General Comments — Jen @ 1:18 pm

In reference to the 9 and 11 year old kids who were arrested for stealing the scooter, what will be done to them at that age? What punishment will they get??

I can’t help but wonder how the parents are dealing with this situation. Do they realize their kids are thieves, or do they have an excuse for their behavior??
