New County Positions

Category: General Comments — Newtotown @ 10:34 am

Has anyone seen the announcements for the two county positions that were recently posted by County Administrator Tom Patton, I cannot find them using a job search engine. Anyone know what publications they were placed in?

Here’s a Novel Idea

Category: General Comments — Iron Man @ 7:50 pm

From today’s USAToday:
Flint, Michigan - Children under 17 will be banned from public places during the day under a new ordinance approved by the city council. The curfew will be in effect from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on school days during the school year and will go into effect in about a month. The ordinance allows police to arrest a child who is supposed to be in school. Parents who do not pick up their child within three hours of being notified would be guilty of a misdemeanor.
I like it!

Help Shape Our Future

Category: General Comments — Larry @ 4:41 am

The County Comprehensive Plan is now being put together.
The RDC recently held a kick off meeting. Ms Lauren Miller of the SW Georgia RDC explained the plan and led the citizen participation to get things going.

Your input is needed to help shape the plan.
What are some of your concerns for Decatur County for the next 10-20 years?
What are some opportunities that you think should be emphasized?

Change is There…

Category: General Comments — Rev. Newton Cranford @ 8:54 pm

I have attended 2 County Commissioner meetings in 2007 (100% attended so far…). I must say I have witnessed a different atmosphere. I actually felt good about attending the meeting. Any other thoughts?

I witnessed what I would call true leadership. I have been hoping and praying for such change and even though I know the Board is not perfect, I do sense a positive change. Let’s pray it continues…

TEAM LEAN 2007

Category: General Comments — hwhite @ 4:53 pm

My family and a couple of friends are interested in the TEAM LEAN 2007 that is being sponsored by the hospital and the YMCA. We picked up our applications but are unsure about guidelines, rules, etc. A couple of us attend school at night, some during the day. Is this going to get in the way of participating. If anyone has a link to more information, please let me know.

Drug busts

Category: General Comments — kwilliams @ 1:49 am

Great job to all law enforcement involved in the 3 month undercover operation. For those who don’t think the police do anything, watch the video on this topic. They work very hard, and do a thankless job.

Talk about selling the farm…

Category: General Comments — mike @ 1:48 am

I wish the new head coach of the Bearcat football team the best. But you have to ask yourself how much did it cost to bring him to Bainbridge and does he really know what he is getting into? He had to be a living legend at his current school with his track record and it would be hard to imagine the booster program their didn’t compensate him handsomely.
I did notice that we gave the football complex the royal treatment for recruiting purposes. The field has been manicured, parking lot resurfaced and painted. We probably repainted the ‘Paws’ down college street!
Now, not wanting to sound too negative, but I wonder if we were recruiting the next Superintendent or High School Principal, would we do and pay as much? And I love the example we are setting for our youth; if you can’t win all the time, go out and buy the best!
I can hear the talk now; “He’s a sure thing; nine time state champ!” Don’t forget Bob Christmas was a two or three time state champ himself back in Virginia. Coach Guy had a very impressive record himself. Let’s hope the new coach talked to Nick Saban before taking the position and negotiated a guaranteed contract.

I would vote YES. What about you? If you say “NO”, then please explain why. Remember, we are supposedly looking for “progress” in our area.

Federal Minimum Wage Increase to $7.50 an hour (?)

Category: General Comments — Adjudicator @ 8:42 pm

This bill is to soon go to the U.S. senate. Congress approved. There are more obstacles to be faced in the upper house.

Are you for or against this action? (Why or why not?)

Is an increase in wage really needed? (Why or why not?)

If the minimum wage is increased, how will that effect your current buying power?

If the minimum wage is increased, how will employers’ increase the productivity (of minimum wage earners) to potentially defer this increased wage????

Great Job!!

Category: General Comments — who?me? @ 11:32 am

In reading the write-up about the arrest of the robbery suspects, it brought a smile to my face to see how fast these 4 were apprehended. Kudos to law enforcement for a job well done! Keep up the good work !!

The facts are extremely important

Category: General Comments — fluffy @ 11:12 am

Earlier this morning, there was an article on BainbridgeGa.com about a man who was “found dead” at the mall. Now the article states he was found “injured” and is in the hospital.

This is a TERRIBLE mistake to make in reporting the news. If I were the man’s family or friend I would be extremely upset.

Should schools warn of weight?

Category: General Comments — lily @ 11:09 am

After watching a program this afternoon, I have been pondering if a school system has the right to let parents know when a child is bordering or is overweight and also underweight.

I think they SHOULD. Considering how bad obeisity has become and how purging has become a problem, other interventions should be there and the school system is a great place to start.

Why do criminals Roam the Streets?

Category: General Comments — sue @ 3:10 am

After reading ANOTHER incident report on Derrick Smart, I keep wondering to myself why in the world is this criminal still roaming the streets? I especially think this since the incident I experienced on New Year’s night also. After going to bed I was frightened to see a light shining in my bedroom window, no more than a block away from the scene of the previous Smart incident. I called 911 just to be safe, and sure enough there was someone lurking around. But to my astonishment, after pulling up at 1:15am and seeing a black male about 5′11” (according to the officer’s own description) lurking around behind apartments, they failed to even stop him!! Why is there this lack of concern of criminals on our streets? Someone please help me understand why they wouldnt even question the man.. or perhaps even put two and two together that this could be the same “Smart” guy from earlier that kept evading them?

Bearcat Coach

Category: General Comments — fbwhistleblower @ 11:17 pm

As an insider and someone who knows the system very well, I truly believe that anyone from this community cannot be an effective head coach at Bainbridge High School. Yes, there has been problems with favoritism and better athletes sitting out. Yes, there has been problems with play-calling decisions and game preparations. Yes, there is a problem with the development of younger players within the system. BUT, there is also a problem with the level of support afforded the players and coaches.
