shoot out

Category: General Comments — vickidavis @ 7:04 pm

I am the owner of the trailer park where your “so called” shooters followed Charlie Brown and fired while there were tenants, children and elders, not to mention the others that could have been in the line of fire, and I am making it known that I do NOT appreciate the way it was handled. They had no consideration whatsoever to my tenants. I also do not appreciate the assumption in your article that my property was a safe haven for meth users or any others running from the law. I have worked very hard over the years to clean the park up and they can verify that with MANY city officials as to the difference, including the Public Safety. I would GREATLY appreciate it if you would not make my property appear to be a safe place for “gutter trash” in the future. I am VERY upset about this and I wish you people would stop following the officers to make them appear to be the heros. As you stated, they fired 3 shots and still Charlie Brown drove away, some shooter. . .

Category: General Comments — infohungry @ 7:42 am

Does anybody else notice that the light is not sensor operated when turning out onto hwy 27 from walmart??? i will sit there for up to three minutes before the light finally changes i ( have timed it). I usually go in the early morning when there isn’t much traffic on 27 and still the light does not change can’t the city get the DOT to change this or at least check into it???? Also there needs to be a left turn signal at the intersection of dothan rd. and Newton it is a very dangerous place to try turning in the mornings and in the afternoon around 5:00 pm.

What are our kids really thinking?

Category: General Comments — lily @ 10:07 pm

Tonight at supper I brought up with my husband the Bill Clinton interview on television the other night. During the conversation my 13 year old said, ” Why don’t we just blow them up?” My response to him was that we cannot blow up innocent women, children and men. He said, “They did that to us on 9/11.” I can understand his response. I tried to explain to him that killing innocent people over ones’ belief is not moral or a correct thing to do. We cannot stoop to the same level that the terrorists of that day performed.

The previous posts have included sex, drugs, and alcohol amongst our kids. We, as parents, have devoted ours lives to protect our children from these “harmful” things. We are so worried that sex and drugs are all that they think about. Do we know what they are really worried about? During this conversation I was thinking to myself that I have been over everything with him. I came to realize, this is not a subject that I have sat down and talked with him about. Has anyone of us considered what the “War on Terrorism” is doing to their thinking?

Inmates At School While Children Are Present

Category: General Comments — speaking my mind @ 1:20 am

I went to WBES on Friday evening to pick up my child. When I arrived at 2:30 the inmates were there cleaning the lawn. The problem I have is the guard with them was standing at the road while several inmates were behind the school with weedeaters.

I don’t know why these men are in prison. I understand they are trustees, but must they be present at a school while the children are there. You never know they could be drug dealers and from what I understand drugs are present in our jails. So who’s to say they would not offer our children drugs or whatever else while the guard is so far away. We as true parents try to do our jobs and keep the children away from things of that sort and the school systems put right in front of their faces. Makes you wonder.

Where are you buying Gas?

Category: General Comments — mike @ 11:53 pm

BOSTON — A city councilor wants a landmark Citgo sign taken down in response to a speech in which Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez called President Bush “the devil.”
Citgo is a subsidiary of Venezuela’s state oil company and Councilor Jerry McDermott wants to replace the sign, which is visible from Fenway Park, with a U.S. flag.
“Given the hatred of the United States displayed by dictator Hugo Chavez, it would be more fitting to see an American flag when you drive through Kenmore Square,” McDermott told The Boston Herald. “I think people would soon forget the Citgo sign.”
Citgo paid $1 million to refurbish the sign last year, said company spokesman David McCollum, who downplayed McDermott’s proposed, nonbinding resolution.
“We leave the politics to the politicians,” he said.
Chavez called Bush “the devil” in a speech to the United Nations on Wednesday.

Copyright 2006 by The Associated Press

Whether you agree with the policies of our President or not, we must never allow anyone to attack our country in this way. By attacking the President, he attacked each and every one of us.

After “the devil” speech to the United Nations, Chavez showed up in New York to allocate a certain amount of oil to the poor for the winter months. This man should never be allowed on U.S. soil again, and those that support his views should be monitored as closely as those who support Al Queda and terrorist activities.

If you buy gas at Citgo, it’s important to know that the profits from that fuel is what provides this type of person a podium in which to speak. As a sign of unity and in support of the United States of America and those who fight and lose their lives for our freedom, we should do everything possible to boycott all Citgo affiliated service stations. The decision is yours…..

BikeFest “A Good Thing”

Category: General Comments — tree farmer @ 1:42 pm

Sunday morning was unusual for my husband and I. We didn’t go to S.S. and church; we went to the cemetery and decorated graves. Afterwards we went to Hardees for breakfast.
While enjoying our Sunday morning breakfast a group of bikers came in and sat next to us. We spoke and they struck up a nice conversation with us about the Bikefest. The group of “older bikers and wives” were all from the Jacksonville, Florida area.

They told us what a wonderful time they had over the weekend in Bainbridge and that this was the best Bikefest they had ever attended. They have attended many bike festivals for several years! I thought this spoke well of our Bikefest. The bikers thoroughly enjoyed Bainbridge and the shops & resturants in the area and Lake Seminole.

For every motorcycle you saw over the weekend, you multiply that times $60.00 (for a couple) to attend the Bikefest and then figure the gas, food, lodging, and all the shopping that was done by all these people attending Bikefest, and it doesn’t take long to figure that Bainbridge is really reaping the benefits (chairtable organizations included) from this weekend event!! Praises and accolades to those that sponsor and organize this event.

Bikers Have Big Hearts and Bainbridge Benefits From These Bikers, Greatly!!

New High School Name

Category: General Comments — bebe51442 @ 11:27 pm

I think the new high schol should have a new name. It will serve the entire county not just students from Bainbridge.

Decatur County High School sounds as good as it would being named for someone.

How many grocery stores do we have?

Category: General Comments — hwhite @ 10:15 pm

For the second time in the past week, and probably several dozen times in the last twenty years, I went out to eat and was told they were out of a very simple item. The establishment was out of rice. Now I happen to know that rice is readily available at many grocery stores. The first incident I ordered a salad and the other establishment was out of tomatoes…not the first time that has happened either. I have actually had an eating establishment tell me they were out of lettuce. I am begging anyone out there who owns a restraunt….please, if you are out of a simple item like this, please send someone to the grocery store. The real kicker is that I ordered the shrimp and rice plate….no rice…still full price. Shame. You did not have to charge for the rice! We will exercise our right not to visit that one again.

I just want to say “Thank You” to Larry and Sue for the good work. I enjoy reading your website several times a day and find it not only interesting but informative. Thank you for the endless hours you and your staff put into keeping the County informed. I am sorry that people can be so negative and not take others feelings into consideration!

Bus driver after 20 years gone.

Category: Decatur County Controversy, General Comments — suzie @ 7:11 pm

After 20 years of driving a school bus my husband is giving it up. Not because he doesn’t like it but because of the way he has been treated this last week. On Sept. the 5th he was called into the office and told that he was suspended without pay because he did not have an S endorsement on his license. On April 23, 2004 he went and took his test for the S endorsement and passed. The examiner failed to type the S on his license. So when he was called into the office and told he was suspended it came as a complete surprise. Who looks at their license to make sure the endorsements are on there.

Rickards Football Game

Category: General Comments — Shocked @ 12:46 pm

Am I the only one that is appalled with the performance of the Rickards High School Band Friday night? Every year their performance gets more distasteful than the last. Why do we keep inviting them back to play? They are from out of state and not in our region. Can we not find another team to play that will bring a respectful marching band with them?

Does it bother anyone else besides me that when you go to a store and you are going OUT a door designated for EXIT and you are pushing your grocery cart out and you have to wait for someone ENTERING through the EXIT door, when the ENTER side is completly open. Or is it just me?

Gasoline Sales

Category: General Comments — deerhunter @ 1:08 pm

I know there was another blog on gas prices, but I am curious if anyone has an idea of how many gallons are pumped in Bainbridge daily. Gas prices yesterday seemed to average $2.49 in Bainbridge and were $2.30 in Donalsonville. Just curious how much extra money the local station owners are putting in their pockets daily since they obviously are making an extra 19 cents per gallon. And please, no excuses because I’m sure the stations there are making a profit or they would all be out of business. Also, today the price in Donalsonville has dropped to $2.26. I’m one of the lucky ones who travels daily to D’ville for work so I can buy all mine there. I guess the local distributors have to pay extra for the gas they buy at the local storage facilities since it doesn’t have to be transported out of town.
